This person will manage the Mechanical Engineering (ME) group within the IPG Medical Division, while also serving as a technical lead and mentor to ME staff ranging from Engineering Technicians to Senior Engineers. This role is intended for an experienced mechanical engineer from the medical device industry with strong design skills in optical system packaging, precision adjustment mechanisms, incorporation of innovative manufacturing processes, and mechanical analysis.
As a manager, this role requires a demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team of engineers, balance resources and capabilities, and mentor developing team members.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in the design and packaging of systems and devices
- At least 10 years of medical device industry experience and 5 years of experience managing or leading an engineering team are required
- Experience with mid-power laser-powered systems, disposable surgical fibers, and thermal management is desirable
- At least 5 years of experience leading the development of optical devices, including knowledge of optical materials, coatings, basic geometric optics, and troubleshooting optical systems
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, including opto-mechanical design, incorporation of Zemax designs into hardware, and thermal management
- Complete understanding of tolerance analysis and engineering drawing methods
- Comprehensive knowledge of fabrication processes for optical sub-systems, including emerging and innovative manufacturing techniques such as laser-sintered metals
