Job Description

Build Relationships. Solve Problems. Grow Business.

Central Valley Ag is looking for a Field Sales Agronomist who enjoys working with producers, learning how their operations work, and helping them make informed decisions.

This is a customer-facing sales role. You will build relationships with current customers, look for opportunities to earn additional business, and introduce CVA to producers we are not currently serving. You will use agronomic knowledge, product resources, and support from the CVA team to recommend fertilizer, seed, crop protection, precision agriculture, finance programs, and other solutions that provide value to the producer.

Prior agronomy sales experience is helpful but not required. Candidates may bring an agricultural background, relevant education, customer-facing experience, or a demonstrated ability to build relationships and learn. What matters most is the willingness to get in front of producers, initiate conversations, ask good questions, follow through, and earn business.

What You’ll Do

  • Build trusted relationships with current customers and prospective producers.
  • Regularly connect with producers in person, by phone, and through timely follow-up.
  • Learn each customer’s operation, goals, challenges, and input needs.
  • Look for opportunities to grow existing accounts and develop new business.
  • Recommend fertilizer, seed, crop protection, GPS, precision farming technology, finance programs, and other CVA products and services.
  • Explain recommendations in a practical way that helps producers understand the agronomic and financial value.
  • Develop whole-farm and customer account plans.
  • Prepare pricing, proposals, and contracts and work toward closing the sale.
  • Forecast customer demand and communicate product and application needs accurately and on time.
  • Continue building knowledge of agronomic products, field conditions, industry trends, and emerging challenges.
  • Coordinate with operations, applicators, dispatch, and other CVA team members to deliver on customer commitments.
  • Help coordinate custom application products, equipment, and scheduling.
  • Respond to customer concerns professionally and work with the appropriate team members to resolve problems.
  • Complete required customer documentation, sales reports, billing procedures, and inventory-related reporting.
  • Follow CVA credit policies and assist with contract and collection responsibilities.
  • Support customer education, product promotions, field scouting, and agronomic recommendations.
  • Assist with plant operations and other location needs as assigned.
  • Participate in required company training, the agronomy mentoring program, and CVA research and development platform events.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and represent CVA professionally and ethically.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Why This Job

  • Build long-term relationships with local producers and become a trusted resource for their operations.
  • Combine agriculture, problem-solving, and relationship-based selling in one role.
  • Work with fertilizer, seed, crop protection, precision technology, finance programs, and other agronomic services.
  • Develop your agronomic and sales capabilities through experience, company training, and the agronomy mentoring program.
  • Work independently while having support from CVA agronomy, operations, application, and other team members.
  • Make a direct contribution to producer success and CVA’s agronomy business.

Benefits

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Pension Plan
  • Paid Time Off and Holidays
  • Wellness Programs
  • Life and Disability Insurance
  • HSA and FSA Options
  • Ongoing Training and Development

Eligibility and coverage are subject to the terms of the applicable benefit plans.

What We’re Looking For

  • A genuine interest in working with producers and learning about their operations.
  • Willingness to initiate conversations, meet new people, follow up consistently, and ask for the business.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Initiative, self-direction, and dependable follow-through.
  • Curiosity and a willingness to learn agronomy, products, technology, and consultative selling.
  • Ability to organize customer activity, plan ahead, and manage multiple assignments.
  • Sound judgment and a practical approach to solving customer problems.
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with the broader CVA team.
  • Professional customer-service skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft applications.
  • Commitment to safety, integrity, accurate documentation, and responsible use of resources.
  • Education or practical experience in agriculture, agronomy, sales, customer service, or another relevant area that provides a foundation for learning the role.

Helpful, but Not Required

  • Previous agronomy or agricultural sales experience
  • Customer service, outside sales, business development, or account-management experience
  • Knowledge of fertilizer, seed, crop protection, precision agriculture, or crop production
  • Crop scouting or crop-consulting experience
  • Experience with agricultural retail, a cooperative, seed or crop-input sales, ag equipment, agricultural lending, crop insurance, or another producer-facing business

Previous agronomy sales experience is not required. What matters most is the willingness and ability to learn, build relationships, follow through, and actively pursue opportunities.

Work Environment

This position combines customer visits, field scouting, account planning, phone and computer work, and coordination with CVA facilities and team members.
