Master Production Scheduler

 

Main Function
Reporting to the Marquette Supply Chain Manager, the Master Production Scheduler is responsible for developing and maintaining the master production schedule to ensure alignment between customer demand, production capacity, and inventory strategies. This role plays a critical part in the Sales & Operations Planning (SIOP) process, balancing supply and demand while optimizing service levels, inventory turns, and operational efficiency. The position serves as a key liaison between operations, procurement, and commercial teams to drive execution and continuous improvement.

Principal Duties / Responsibilities

Master Scheduling & Production Planning
• Develop, maintain, and manage the master production schedule (MPS) based on demand forecasts, customer orders, and capacity constraints.
 • Translate demand plans into detailed production schedules while ensuring alignment with manufacturing capabilities and material availability.
 • Monitor schedule adherence and adjust plans proactively to address changes in demand, supply disruptions, or capacity limitations.
 • Balance inventory levels, service targets, and production efficiency through effective schedule management.

SIOP Alignment
 • Actively participate in SIOP processes by providing supply planning inputs, capacity analysis, and scenario modeling.
 • Collaborate with Demand Planning, Procurement, and Operations to ensure alignment between forecast, supply plans, and inventory strategies.
 • Identify and communicate risks and opportunities related to capacity, materials, and service levels.

Capacity & Materials Planning
 • Evaluate production capacity and constraints, recommending adjustments to optimize throughput and meet customer requirements.
 • Coordinate with procurement and materials planning teams to ensure timely availability of raw materials and components.
 • Support inventory optimization initiatives, including safety stock setting and excess/obsolete inventory reduction.

ERP & Data Management
 • Maintain accurate planning parameters, lead times, and scheduling data within ERP systems.
 • Ensure data integrity to support effective MPS and MRP execution.
 • Leverage system tools to automate scheduling processes and improve planning accuracy.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting
 • Track and report key performance indicators such as schedule adherence, on-time delivery, capacity utilization, and inventory performance.
 • Analyze planning and scheduling data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
 • Prepare reports and dashboards for leadership review and decision-making.

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
 • Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives focused on planning accuracy, lead time reduction, and operational efficiency.
 • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and improve workflow.
 • Ensure compliance with quality and regulatory standards (FDA, ISO 13485).

Mentorship & Team Support
 • Provide guidance and support to supply planners and scheduling personnel.
 • Serve as a subject matter expert for scheduling processes and ERP planning tools.
 • Assist in training and onboarding new team members.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Strong understanding of master scheduling, MRP, and production planning principles.
 • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage complex data sets.
 • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment.
 • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective cross-functional collaboration.
 • Proficiency in ERP systems (EPICOR or similar) and advanced Excel skills.

Required / Preferred Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business, or related field.
 • 5-7 years of experience in production planning, master scheduling, or supply chain planning.
 • Experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably medical device or regulated industry.
 • APICS/ASCM CPIM or equivalent certification preferred.
