OVERVIEW:

 

The Machine Operator is responsible for setting up the machine for production cycles, controlling and adjusting the machine if needed and filling raw materials into the machine in order to produce pillows of various shapes and sizes. Works efficiently in a fast-paced, repetitive environment necessary in the production of pillows with accuracy and speed to achieve company expectations necessary to meet and exceed customer demands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Ensure that the quality of the product meets the product specifications. 
  • Observes all Safety Rules and responsible for maintaining a clean and safe work area.
  • Performs duties of general help and job assignments as required. 

 

All Live Comfortably associates play a crucial role in meeting our customer requirements and are expected after initial training to perform with minimal supervision. Associates may be asked to assist with other duties and work in other departments when needed to meet those requirements. 

 

 

OPERATOR DUTIES

 

 

  • Utilize filling equipment assigned to the line and report any equipment problems to the supervisor and/or maintenance immediately based on departmental process. 
  • Maintain production efficiency, and ensure quality of raw materials and finished goods meet product specifications to include:
    • Verifying components with Bill of Material (BOM)
  1. Comply with First Good Pillow process.
  2. Maintaining quality:
      • Makes certain proper filling product is being used.
      • Accurately maintains specified weight.
      • Being observant of foreign matter in filling material and reporting same to supervisor.
      • Responsible for overall appearance of product being filled.
    • Maintains fast-paced in production process to ensure efficiency standards are on target. 
  • Sets lapper stops, machine’s speed, and cutter rolls to maintain the proper weight and size of specified batt.
  • Report all scrapped product as well as any discrepancies in order to ensure an accurate count. 
  • Watch out for bottle necks and follow departmental procedure/supervisor instruction in managing. 
  • Performs general machine maintenance when instructed
  • Maintain clean work area to include raw materials including fiber and finished goods off the floor. 
  • Follows all lock-out procedures when working on machine or going behind safety gates.

 

 

SCROLLING MACHINE OPERATOR DUTUES

 

  • Maintain production efficiency, and ensure quality of raw materials and finished goods meet product specifications to include:
  1. Minimizing all set-up time. 
  2. Setting scrolling trays to correct product size for proper scrolling.
  3. Setting computer to scroll correct product pattern on specified unit.
  4. Inspecting sewing and cording of products perimeter as clamping onto tray for scrolling and reporting any defects to supervisor.
  5. Checking the closing area and tags on product fill opening to ensure tags sewn in correctly and stitching is of good quality with minimal to zero fabric tuck in closing.
  6. Prior to activating scrolling process, ensuring distribution of down is even or if fiber filled, fiber is clamped evenly to avoid pull out and separation from shell perimeter.
  7. Inspecting product for fabric flaws, soiling, or holes.
  8. Trimming thread less than ½” in length prior to packaging.
  9. Confirming no skipped or looped stitches within scrolled pattern and that borders are even from side to side and there is the proper number of stitches per inch.
  10. Monitors production process hourly to ensure efficiency standards are on target. 
  11. Packaging the finished product.
  • Assigned to varied work stations as production needs require.
  • Assist team in maintaining a safe, clean, neat and orderly work area.  
  • Provide input to Supervisor for equipment problems. 

 

 

 

REQUIREMENTS, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS 

 

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to read, write and follow directions 
  • Ability to work repetitive jobs at a fast pace.
  • Physical stamina in order to stand and handle materials for extended periods

While performing the duties of this job, the associate spends most of time standing. Also required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and maneuver around production equipment throughout the shift.   The Associate is occasionally required to balance., stoop and bends regularly to move/lift material or equipment (typically less than 50 lbs). 

 

Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Manufacturing / Production Floor: While performing the duties of this job, the Associate is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate however there may be areas designated as Hearing Protection required and provided earplugs are mandatory in those areas. 

 

Not all areas of the plant and warehouse are climate controlled and exposure to heat and/or cold can occur. The Associate is frequently exposed to dust and floating particles used in the manufacturing, storage and inventory of raw materials and finished goods
