Job Summary

Support thermoforming application development through trials, equipment, and process development for thin and thick gauge manufacturing.  Identify and match technical performance attributes of products to new application opportunities identified by Sales and Marketing.

Essential Functions

  • Manage and support new product development programs.
  • Manage new product and process development projects at the Technology Center.
  • Support manufacturing as new technologies are moved to commercialization.
  • Provide technical assistance to customers, especially new developmental projects.
  • Identify, document and provide technical assistance on capturing new intellectual property opportunities.
  • Match new business opportunities with existing product technology.
  • Identify and provide technical insight in assessment of external technology offerings.
  • Provide technical support for all thermoforming applications at customer locations.
  • Support sales and quality in the event of customer complaints or issues.

 

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related or equivalent
  • With B.S. degree, five years packaging experience in the field of extrusion and thermoforming equipment and processes.
  • Must have solid expertise in plastics thermoforming for thin and thick gauge applications.
  • Preferred experience with plastic sheet extrusion.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong project management skills.
  • Ability to travel 50-75% of the time.
  • Knowledge of key production processes (extrusion, thermoforming, etc.) and polymer behavior
  • Knowledge of polymers utilized in plastics manufacturing (extrusion – thermoforming).
  • Knowledge of key equipment utilized in extrusion, thermoforming and part finishing
  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with all levels and types of internal and external individuals, including customers and suppliers.
  • Ability to work in and support a team environment
  • Ability to write operational and project reports, correspondence, policies and procedures
  • High level of proficiency in computer skills, specifically Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Power Point
  • Analytical and mathematical skills necessary to collect, interpret, and act on process trials and activities
  • Ability to meet physical demands associated with position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
