Summary Job Description

Reporting to the Lower School Principal, the School Receptionist is responsible for providing reception and administrative support to the lower and middle School areas of campus each week. This part-time hourly (non-exempt) position will serve approximately 23-24 hours each week and will generally serve during the 10-month school calendar year, beginning in early August, 2026. The typical schedule is anticipated to be 11:30 am to 4 pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 10:30 to 4 pm on Wednesdays. During summer, there may be occasional opportunities to serve for a few hours as needed for administrative support and vacations,

 Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Provide general reception and administrative support to the school in support of the Covenant Day School mission and its teachers, students, families, and other visitors to campus
  • During the school year, provide lunch coverage, reception window service, mail distribution and administrative support to lower and middle school lead administrative assistants as scheduled
  • Exhibit excellent customer service while answering phone calls, assisting visitors, directing student needs, and responding to and/or referring other topics that arise in the front offices
  • Partner with HR team to coordinate substitutes each school year and maintain an ongoing master list of available subs; also provide orientation tours/support to new substitutes when hired
  • Provide building level emergency support and drill execution when needed, following campus safety protocols at the direction of the campus Safety and Security Manager
  • Serve as a “backup” when needed for answering main school telephone line
  • Provide other office administrative and lower/middle school project support as directed appropriate to the position (past projects have included grandparent day support, lost and found organization, standardized testing administration, school announcements, stocking breakrooms, calendar tasks, supplies ordering, etc.)
  • Other duties and project work as assigned by the Lower School Principal in partnership with the Middle School Principal.

  • Have a heart for serving with students on a school campus
  • Previous experience in office administration is required; flexibility and openness to serve in different areas of the school required
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills and computer knowledge in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  • Demonstrated dedication to always providing excellent customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with various school constituents such as parents, visitors, students, other faculty/staff, and vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and pro-active approaches
  • Ability to maintain the greatest degree of confidentiality and professionalism 
  • Ability to work under pressure both independently and within a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds when needed
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
