Position Title:  School Social Worker (SSW)
Division:  Family & Student Support Services/School
Reports To:  Director, Social Work Services
FLSA Status:  Exempt
Salary Schedule:  Teacher
Work Days:  190

Essential Duties:
  1. Coordinate the assigned schools’ social work program and assure that the implementation of the program is in accordance with local, state, and federal policies, rules and regulations.
  2. Identify and interpret factors causing or contribution to problems affecting students’ performance. 
  3. Consult with professional staff about problems affecting students’ performance.
  4. Serve as a liaison between the school and the family.
  5. Make home visits/conduct parent conferences to gather information which may be relevant to students’ school performance.
  6. Provide individual, group and family counseling. 
  7. Make referrals to appropriate school and community resources as necessary.  
  8. Provide services to resolve issues that may prevent students from having successful school experiences.  
  9. Develop cooperative relationships with community agencies such as the Department of Family and Children’s Services, juvenile court, and local mental health facilities.
  10. Provide information and community resources to counselors, teachers and administrators. 
  11. Coordinate the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect and provide annual child abuse updates for all school system employees. 
  12. Maintain records of reports of suspected child abuse and neglect. 
  13. Represent the Board of Education on local interdisciplinary teams and coalitions as needed. 
  14. Facilitate the Truancy Intervention Meeting process with identified families as a component of the District’s Truancy Intervention Protocol.
  15. Initiate State and Juvenile Court involvement regarding the compulsory attendance law as necessary. 
  16. Coordinate the Crisis Intervention Process.
  17. Participate in IEP meetings.
  18. Advocate for students/families within the school system and throughout the community. 
  19. Plan and/or provide staff development activities for school system employees.
  20. Utilize appropriate local and state procedures to maintain required documentation.  
  21. Prepare annual reports as required by the State including specific areas of casework service.
  22. Implement procedures to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations to Student Services administration about modifications needed to improve services.
  23. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. 
Qualifications: 
  1. Hold or be eligible for a minimum of an S-5 Georgia Certificate in School Social Work (or BA – criminal justice, legal experience preferred - for Outreach Worker-type position.)  
  2. Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  3. Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.  
  4. Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.  
  5. Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.  
  6. Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  7. Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  8. Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.  
  9. Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations. 
  10. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
