- Coordinate the assigned schools’ social work program and assure that the implementation of the program is in accordance with local, state, and federal policies, rules and regulations.
- Identify and interpret factors causing or contribution to problems affecting students’ performance.Â
- Consult with professional staff about problems affecting students’ performance.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and the family.
- Make home visits/conduct parent conferences to gather information which may be relevant to students’ school performance.
- Provide individual, group and family counseling.Â
- Make referrals to appropriate school and community resources as necessary. Â
- Provide services to resolve issues that may prevent students from having successful school experiences. Â
- Develop cooperative relationships with community agencies such as the Department of Family and Children’s Services, juvenile court, and local mental health facilities.
- Provide information and community resources to counselors, teachers and administrators.Â
- Coordinate the reporting of suspected child abuse and neglect and provide annual child abuse updates for all school system employees.Â
- Maintain records of reports of suspected child abuse and neglect.Â
- Represent the Board of Education on local interdisciplinary teams and coalitions as needed.Â
- Facilitate the Truancy Intervention Meeting process with identified families as a component of the District’s Truancy Intervention Protocol.
- Initiate State and Juvenile Court involvement regarding the compulsory attendance law as necessary.Â
- Coordinate the Crisis Intervention Process.
- Participate in IEP meetings.
- Advocate for students/families within the school system and throughout the community.Â
- Plan and/or provide staff development activities for school system employees.
- Utilize appropriate local and state procedures to maintain required documentation. Â
- Prepare annual reports as required by the State including specific areas of casework service.
- Implement procedures to evaluate program effectiveness and make recommendations to Student Services administration about modifications needed to improve services.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Â
Qualifications:Â
- Hold or be eligible for a minimum of an S-5 Georgia Certificate in School Social Work (or BA – criminal justice, legal experience preferred - for Outreach Worker-type position.) Â
- Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
- Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation. Â
- Must abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators. Â
- Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work. Â
- Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
- Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds. Â
- Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.Â
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
