Position Overview:

The Financial Model Developer will design, build, validate, and maintain the high-performance cash flow models and supporting calculation library used across the Investments and Capital Markets (I&CM) division. This role supports Freddie Mac’s retained portfolio, interest-rate hedging, and securitization activities by delivering scalable, fault-tolerant, and well-governed quantitative models for valuation, risk management, and financial capital forecasting.

Our Impact:

The Investments and Capital Markets (I&CM) division is responsible for managing the retained portfolio, as well as Freddie Mac’s debt funding, liquidity management, and interest-rate hedging. The division is also responsible for I&CM securitization. Our team develops the core cash flow calculation library and the models that drive these calculations. The library is used by multiple applications for valuation and risk management of Freddie’s portfolios, as well as financial capital forecasting.

Your Impact:

Design, build, validate, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and fault-tolerant financial models to support strategic planning, investment decisions, forecasting, valuation, and performance reporting. This role partners with Finance, FP&A, Strategy, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust, auditable, and scalable models.

  • Develop and maintain financial models for cash flow forecasting, capital planning, scenario analysis, and valuation.

  • Translate business requirements into model structures, assumptions, and outputs.

  • Validate model implementation accuracy through reconciliation.

  • Develop and maintain automated test suites in Python (unit, regression, and integration tests) to ensure numerical correctness, reproducibility, and robust model governance.

  • Maintain version control, documentation, and change logs; ensure models meet internal governance standards.

  • Continuously improve model architecture, computational efficiency, and technical quality (e.g., refactoring, numerical methods, documentation) to increase business impact and reduce model risk.

  • Partner with application teams to ensure our quantitative library is properly integrated into production systems.

  • Support ad hoc analyses as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.

  • At least 2 years of experience developing production software.

  • Programming experience developing and testing with C++, Python, or Java.

  • Solid quantitative skills (statistics, econometrics, algebra).

  • Experience writing automated unit, integration, regression, performance, and acceptance tests.

This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $109,000 - $163,000 and is eligible to participate in the annual incentive program. The final salary offered will generally fall within this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to the responsibilities of the position, experience, skill set, internal pay equity and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
