Overview
The Senior Communications Network Technician installs and repairs data communications lines and equipment. Utilizes work orders to move, change, install, repair, or remove data communications equipment, such modems, cables, network cards, and wires.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Install and repair data communications lines and equipment
- Utilize work orders to move, change, install, repair, or remove data communications equipment, such as modems, cables, network cards, and wires
- Read and comprehend technical manuals to learn correct settings for equipment
- Measure, cut, and install wires and cables; splice wires or cables, using hand-tools or soldering iron
- Connect microcomputer or terminals to data communication lines
- Develop test plans and test communication lines to ensure data is being transmitted between locations according to specifications using testing instruments such as voltmeter and data scope
- Use diagnostic techniques to locate problems, and repair wiring and cables
- Coordinate equipment repair with maintenance organization as needed; monitor repair activity to ensure repair/replacement is completed in a timely manner
- Plan layout and installation of data communications equipment
- Negotiate and place orders with common carriers
- Serve as technical lead for lower level specialists
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience resolving end-user issues by telephone and/or in-person
- At least one certification or equivalent from the following list must be maintained CCDA, CCNP, CCSP, and/or CCNA
- Proven experience with ticketing systems
- Strong knowledge of basic business analysis techniques
- Demonstrated experience with data communications equipment including modems, cables, wires, etc.
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree related field
Compensation: $100,000-$105,000 The compensation range listed for this position is provided as a good-faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, budget, market data, and relevant laws.
