Job Summary

Reporting to the Program Supervisor – Inclusion, the Program Director – Inclusion, and/or the Community Recreation Coordinator, the Inclusion Support Staff are accountable for advocating, and providing individual support and adaptations for a child, youth, or young adult with special needs in a recreation program setting.

Job Duties Include

  • Develops and implements a daily/weekly action plan that will fully accommodate the support needs of your participant.

  • Develops weekly professional and participant specific actionable goals.

  • Assists in the development and implementation of adaptive programming for participants with special needs.

  • Attends to the care needs (feeding, toileting, clothing changes, etc.) of participants with special needs.

  • Ensures the safety and well-being of participants during program hours.

  • Dispenses and administers participant medication as required.

  • Provides lifts and transfers for participants as required.

  • Provides behaviour management.

  • Takes appropriate action to deal with incidents/accidents and emergencies, as outlined in the departmental policies and procedures.

  • Works cooperatively and maintains ongoing and effective communication with participants, parents, colleagues, and supervisors.

  • Creates an environment that fosters a positive and inclusive program experience.

  • Creates an environment where participants strive to participate fully, perform to the best of their ability, and learn new skills.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Completion of Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • Minimum 9 months to 1 year of experience.

  • Knowledge and experience related to the delivery of programs and services.

  • Previous experience working/volunteering with children, youth, and/or young adults with special needs (personal, professional or volunteer experience will be considered).

  • Strong behaviour management skills.

  • Strong understanding of how to deliver personal care (clothing change, assistance in the washroom, etc.) to customers with dignity and safety.

  • Self-motivated, positive, confident and approachable.

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.

  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification (if hired, must be obtained by June 10, 2026).

  • HIGH FIVE - Principles of Healthy Child Development certification (if hired, must be obtained by June 10, 2026).

  • Able to provide a clear Criminal Reference /Vulnerable Sector check that is current (completed in the last 6 months), upon being hired.

  • Must be available to work the full 9 weeks of Summer (June 29 - August 28, 2026) including mandatory training dates (Orientation, BMST, Staff Training).

Nice to Have

  • Post-secondary education in Recreation / Therapeutic Recreation / PSW/DSW / Social Work / Education program is an asset.

What is Offered to Staff

  • Compensation: We offer competitive pay that reflects the responsibilities of the position.

  • Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, various shifts between 7:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. May be required to work extended hours for before and after care from 7:15 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. in addition to regularly scheduled hours.

  • Active & Formal Interview – To be conducted in April 2026

  • Behaviour Management Systems Training – Recertification – May 7, 2026, May 27, 2026 or June 4, 2026

  • Behaviour Management Systems Training – Full Certification – May 14, 2026, May 21, 2026, or June 16, 2026

  • Corporate/Health and Safety Training – June 10, 2026

  • Summer Staff Training – June 13, 2026 and June 22-June 25, 2026

  • Camps begin – June 29, 2026

  • Camps end – August 28, 2026*

*Contracts may be extended to end on September 4, 2026 for Camp Finale.
