Position Summary

This is a hands-on, full-time position with day-to-day duties that include broadband and telephone installation and troubleshooting activities. Rearranges or removes equipment and associated wiring/fiber optics as required.  Responsible for testing, conducting utility locates, and verifies all work order-, service order- or trouble ticket data.  Accurately test all services and completes written and field assessments, meeting/exceeding SC standards.

 

Essential Duties and Major Responsibilities

  • Regularly operates outside plant construction equipment to install duct and fiber.
  • Completes associated documentation with each work order/service order/trouble ticket promptly to ensure all work details are recorded for entry in the customer's account or inventory ledgers once the work is completed.
  • Responsible for locating company utilities for assigned projects.
  • Properly operates, cleans, maintains and stocks vehicles & equipment to be prepared to perform regular duties and always promote safe operation.
  • Performs all diagnostic testing to ensure fibers is working correctly and meets the requirements of a work order.
  • Access, navigate, and understand the company apps on mobile devices
  • Performs installation, repair, and maintenance of pots, broadband, and PBX systems directed by NOC / dispatch and the Outside Plant Manager.
  • Regularly responsible for providing accurate and timely communication to the customer in a manner that is easily understood and provides the customer with education on products and services, ensuring that the customer will receive the total intended value of the delivered products or services.
  • Provides on-location expert support and recommendations to customers for networking and computer troubleshooting and maintenance concerns, including setup/configuration of all required networking equipment to provide the best possible service for the customer.
  • Responsible for correcting system mapping information when discrepancies are discovered while performing locates, or other fiber optic work.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.

 

Experience

  • 1-4 years of equipment operator experience strongly preferred.

 

Specialized Skills

  • Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Must have proficient communication skills to explain in detail complex information in an understandable format both verbally and in writing.
  • Must have CDL license.
  • Must be able to work a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Ability to use intermediate cable installation tools and hand tools and perform jobs from high places (on poles and roofs,) ladders and bucket trucks (18 to 20 feet,) as determined by the system's requirements.
  • Must read and follow general system layouts from blueprints, basic knowledge of mathematics, internet/telephone products, and services.
  • Advanced knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC,) the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC,) the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), various state and local codes (as applicable).

 

Supervisory Expectations:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

  • The work environment is the typical home/business installation & repair environment. The employee must complete their work satisfactorily in an environment where there are significant distractions, including the ability to work in an outdoor environment off ladders and occasionally in crawl spaces and attics. Manipulates connectors, fasteners, wire, and hand tools, works in areas with exposure to moderate noise levels.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to works in confined spaces such as crawl spaces or attics, works while standing 50 -70% of the time and performs work near power lines and electricity, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and should do so in a sound and safe manner. This job's specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to regularly drive, travel from work site to work site.

Work Hours

8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Hours vary and are dependent on business needs.

40 Hour Work Week

Monday through Friday, hours may vary with the workload. 

Evenings/Weekends

Must work a mandatory rotating On-Call Schedule.
