Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 2) / Principal Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 3)Â to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering team in Melbourne, FL.
As the Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer, you will create EWIS schematics and select aircraft‑grade conductors, backshells, relays, and other electro‑mechanical components in accordance with SAE AS‑50881 and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620 while ensuring EMI shielding and separation requirements. You will collaborate with harness fabrication shops, support troubleshooting, and work both independently and within a dynamic, multidisciplinary team to deliver reliable aircraft electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Design aircraft‑level EWIS schematics and select conductors, connectors, backshells, relays, switches, circuit‑breakers, and termination hardware per SAE AS‑50881 and IPC/WHMA‑A‑620.
- Apply EMI shielding and separation requirements throughout the design.
- Develop wiring layouts using ECAD tools (e.g., Mentor Graphics Capital Harness, Zuken, or equivalents).
- Coordinate with harness‑fabrication shops to verify manufacturability and quality.
- Perform independent design work under general supervision and contribute to multidisciplinary team reviews.
- Support troubleshooting and issue resolution throughout the product lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at an Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 2) OR Principal Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 3) level based on the qualifications below.
Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 2)
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 2 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 0 years of related professional/military experience.
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Professional experience in aircraft subsystems design/development
Principal Electrical Subsystem Wiring Design Engineer (Level 3)
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Professional experience in aircraft subsystems design/development
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with military aircraft subsystem development
