Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Guidance, Navigation & Controls Engineer (Level 4) to join our diverse Vehicle Engineering team in Melbourne, FL.
As the GNC Engineer you willlead system‑engineering activities, including requirement decomposition, verification, and validation of GNC capabilities within the Vehicle Management System. You will apply agile practices (user stories, scrums) to plan and deliver GNC subsystem features across the full lifecycle, from CONOPS through requirements development, test, and verification. You will ensure the quality of GNC‑team deliverables, define and execute processes for GNC software and subsystem‑level testing, and serve as the subject‑matter expert for integrated GNC products built in a Simulink model‑based design environment
Key Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Lead the Guidance, Navigation, and Control system engineering requirement maturation
Lead the integration of autopilot and auto throttle capabilities into the Vehicle Management System
Lead subsystem level certification activities
Basic Qualifications:
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 8 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 4 years of related professional/military experience.
Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Demonstrated experience with aircraft flight dynamics and/or flight control systems.Â
Professional experience with aircraft guidance, navigation, and/or flight management systems.Â
Demonstrated experience in system‑engineering requirement definition, verification, and validation
Demonstrated experience in system test program execution. (I.e. developing test procedures, implementing technical edits and test cases, etc.)
Demonstrated experience with MATLAB and Simulink for data processing, analysis, visualization, and dynamic‑system modeling
Experience using model‑based systems engineering (MBSE) tools.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Flight Management Systems, including RNAV
Experience with fixed‑wing aircraft dynamics and fly‑by‑wire control systems
Experience analyzing non‑linear closed‑loop aircraft simulations
Familiarity with C/C++ and Python programming
Experience developing and integrating autopilot and autothrottle capabilities into Vehicle Management Systems
Experience using CAMEO to create system requirement models
Experience using System Composer to create software architecture
Experience with MIL-STD-1797B
Experience with AS94900 or MIL-STD-9490
Experience with DO-178C
Experience for Atlassian tool suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket)
