A Pari-Mutuel Teller is the primary link at a racetrack or off-track betting (OTB) facility. This role combines high-speed financial transactions with exceptional customer service, requiring a sharp eye for detail and a steady hand during high-pressure race intervals.

Position Summary

The Pari-Mutuel Teller is responsible for processing wagering transactions, including selling betting tickets and cashing out winning tickets for patrons. You are the face of the facility, ensuring that every guest—from the seasoned "handicapper" to the first-time visitor—has a seamless and enjoyable betting experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Wagering Transactions: Accurately process bets into the totalisator (tote) system, including Win, Place, Show, Exactas, Trifectas, and other exotic wagers.
  • Cash Handling: Manage a cash drawer with high precision. This includes receiving cash, making correct change, and verifying the authenticity of currency and winning tickets.
  • Customer Education: Explain betting procedures, minimum wager amounts.
  • Compliance & Integrity: Adhere strictly to state racing commission regulations and internal company policies regarding age verification and anti-money laundering (AML) protocols.
  • Reporting: Balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift, accounting for all "overs" and "shorts."

Skills & Qualifications

Mathematics - Basic math skills; ability to calculate payouts and change rapidly.

Communication - Excellent verbal skills; ability to remain calm and polite during "rush" periods (minutes before a race).

Integrity - High level of honesty and trustworthiness due to constant handling of large sums of cash.

Technical - Proficiency in using computerized point-of-sale or wagering terminals.


Requirements

 

  • Licensing: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Pari-Mutuel License from the Florida Gaming Control Commission (requires a background check and fingerprinting).
  • Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Experience: Previous experience with cash handling is preferred but not always required.
  • Availability: Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings, and holidays (major race days).
