Summary of Position

Newsday is currently seeking an Accountant to join our Financial Reporting team in our Melville, NY office location. In this position, you will be responsible for fixed asset accounting as well as handling various cash management functions. Additionally, you will record journal entries, prepare balance sheet account analysis and ensure accuracy of financial statements prepared for the month end close process. You will also prepare/review monthly variance explanations, liaison with management and financial analysts, and assist in various projects and other ad hoc analysis as assigned.


Essential Duties & Functions

  • Fixed asset reporting including summary of capital spending, placing assets in service, retiring assets, and control functions.
  • Responsible for cash management functions including daily/weekly cash balance reporting and submitting/reporting wire transfers.
  • Assist in month-end close process, which includes recording journal entries.
  • Review accruals and variances for various departments.
  • Prepare balance sheet account analysis for assigned areas on a monthly/quarterly basis including bank reconciliations, fixed assets, prepaid assets, and accruals.
  • Responsible for updating monthly account reconciliation log and month-end financial reports.
  • Prepare year-end schedules to support annual financial statements.
  • Assist in physical inventory procedures.
  • Perform special projects and ad hoc analysis on an as needed basis.

 

Essential Job Knowledge & Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Solid understanding of accounting transactions.
  • Proficiency in computers, Excel and Word required; Oracle Fusion experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously and successfully meet deadlines.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must have the ability to organize and prioritize workloads and demonstrate a sense of urgency.
  • Keen financial acumen and accuracy with numbers.
  • Able to work beyond normal workday during close periods.
  • Must possess a flexible and varied schedule to include PM shifts and weekends as needed during close periods.

 

Physical Requirements

•    Close visual acuity required to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.

•    Employees are generally required to work in the office a minimum of three (3) days per week.

 

Compensation

• The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $75,000, commensurate with experience
