About the role


We welcome you to find out more about this exciting and challenging position at Leviton Manufacturing Company as a member of the Corporate Packaging Design team.  Leviton is a leading global provider of electrical wiring devices, data connectivity solutions, security and automation controls, and lighting and energy management systems for a variety of end-use markets. Packaging is an integral functional element of our product lines, impacting all phases of the supply chain. In this position, you have the potential to become part of a highly motivated and collaborative team of packaging engineers, technical writers and artists, taking a leadership role in driving all aspects of the packaging development process. You will be interacting with multiple functional groups, including product managers, product engineers, manufacturing facilities, suppliers, customers, and various other teams, with the added benefit of being exposed to a variety of products across our business units. You will leverage your engineering skillset and experience to deliver optimal packaging solutions, while making a positive impact in our global sustainability objectives.

 

This position is responsible for the management of the packaging development process for new products and product variations and executing all packaging related activities, including design, system, and documentation requirements; creation of packaging engineering drawings; defining and driving packaging development schedules; supporting role for various packaging functions.


Responsibilities

  • Review and process new product packaging requests from Business Units, ensuring structural, performance, and system requirements are clearly defined and aligned with product launch timelines.
  • Design packaging structures, such as boxes, cards, clamshells, displays, to meet form, fit and function criteria while addressing product, customer, production and shipping requirements.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to incorporate their expertise into the design of packaging for production efficiency and cost optimization. Partner with production facility teams to validate new designs.
  • Develop detailed packaging engineering drawings for cartons, blisters, clamshells and various other packaging components, applying knowledge of materials and strength requirements to ensure product protection during transit, including consideration of sustainability impacts.
  • Define transportation performance testing requirements, including ISTA, Small Parcel, and ASTM testing protocols.
  • Establish Oracle EBS part numbers, BOM structures and packaging attribute requirements. Management UPCs and other barcodes in alignment with GS1 industry standards. Maintain packaging-related system data (UPCs, pack modes, standard packs, pack types, pallet configurations, etc.) and guide manufacturing facilities in implementing updates.
  • Support the development and ongoing maintenance of packaging procedures with the certified Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Assist in researching, reviewing and recommending new packaging equipment or systems that enhance production efficiency related to product packaging.
  • Support training initiatives by educating personnel on packaging system functionality and requirements and by supporting materials, including PowerPoint presentations and training documentation.
  • Support cost-reduction initiatives through improvements in packaging design, materials and equipment.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite Layout Programs
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite applications: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word and Teams
  • Understanding of palletization requirements and barcoding software functionality
  • Strong project management skills, including leading cross-functional project teams
  • Creative, solution-focused with exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision

Education & Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Packaging Engineering or a related field
  • Strong background in packaging design and knowledge of various material types
  • Hands-on experience with packaging production processes, assembly equipment, and materials
  • Proficiency in mechanical drafting using SolidWorks CAD software or comparable systems
  • Oracle EBS or similar ERP systems
  • Ability to create reports, databases, and metrics using standard software tools (MS Office)
  • Ability to create processes and procedures compliant to industry standards (ISO)
  • Knowledge of packaging materials and their related sustainability and environmental impacts
