Meteorologist

Summary of Position

Analyze weather observations, models and other available and relevant data to build accurate Long Island, NY state, and occasionally national and international weather forecasts. Forecast all types of weather including severe thunderstorms, winter storms, tropical storms and hurricanes, coastal influences and fire weather. Work calmly and collaboratively with show producers and be accustomed to working on-air and with on-air talent.

Essential Duties & Functions

• Prepare and deliver live or recorded weather reports and forecasts for Newsday’s live streaming and digital platforms. 
• Deliver severe weather reporting as needed.
• Analyze weather data and synthesize the information into clear, easy-to-understand graphics.
• Present weathercasts from our studio or on-location.

Essential Job Knowledge & Skills

• Must have 5+ years of related experience
• NWA and/or AMS Certified meteorologist preferred
• Must be skilled with telling a comprehensive and clear weather story, especially during extreme weather events
• Must be willing and able to work a flexible and varied schedule to include holidays, weekends and extended hours.
• Must be skilled at posting weather-related information on social media channels.
• Must have a drivers license in good standing to travel to location as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Position requires broadcasting and articulating weather and related assignments on air in a high pressure environment.
• Requires the ability to read through files, scripts, presentations, theories, monitors and procedures. 

Compensation

• The annual salary range for this role is $80,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience
