ABOUT THE ROLE:
The fire protection technician provides design support and subject matter expertise in the following areas: fire protection, life safety, building and fire codes, fire hazard and risk assessment of materials and processes, fire and smoke spread, fire detection, fire detection, alarm and sprinkler system design, industrial fire hazards, fire investigation support, and other fire and life safety issues.Â
RESPONSIBILITIES:Â
- Support engineering design, analysis, calculations and specifications for facility fire and life safety systemsÂ
- Verify and sustain building adherence to current fire codes and the operational integrity of fire life safety systemsÂ
- Develop AM&M (Alternate Means & Methods) to local AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) to help with performance-based design criteria to meet intent of codeÂ
- Manage the commissioning phase of fire life safety projects, from initial planning and risk assessments through to post-commissioning monitoring and adjustmentsÂ
- Conduct routine inspections, audits, and testing of fire life safety systems (e.g., alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers) to identify and resolve deficiencies proactivelyÂ
- Collaborate with facilities teams, contractors, and external authorities (e.g., fire marshals) to coordinate system installations, upgrades, and certificationsÂ
- Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, reports, and records of inspections, compliance activities, and corrective actions to support regulatory auditsÂ
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Â
- High school diploma or equivalency certificateÂ
- 2+ years of experience in the design and construction of fire protection systems and/or fire protection consultingÂ
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Â
- Working knowledge of Building & Fire Codes and NFPA Codes & StandardsÂ
- Degree in fire protection engineeringÂ
- Professional Engineer License (P.E., passed the Principles of Engineering exam)Â
- NICET certification in relevant fire protection programsÂ
- Ability to lead project design teamsÂ
- Knowledgeable in OSHA complianceÂ
- Fire & Smoke software modeling capabilitiesÂ
- Construction Administration experienceÂ
- Proficient in Autodesk Revit       Â
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Willing to work extended hours as neededÂ
- Willing to travel for specific project needsÂ
