Takes end-to-end ownership and responsibility over critical engineering initiatives including deployment, integration, and management of private, public, and/or hybrid cloud platform services supporting the development of complex analytical applications at enterprise scale.
The Cloud Engineer Principal champions safe and scalable environment provisioning while protecting accessibility to data assets residing within FedEx Dataworks own network.
The Cloud engineer principal sets the standards for sizing, building, deploying, managing, and monitoring fault-tolerant, 24/7 application infrastructure.
Manages the infrastructure as code using scripts, templates, blueprints, workflows, CI/CD orchestration tools, and other automation technologies in the spirit of speed and consistency.
Continuously collaborates with a variety of architects and peer engineering teams ensuring deployed services meet the highest levels of scalability, reliability, and performance while balancing security, maintainability, reliability, and operational excellence.
Advises junior engineers, managers, and those in less senior positions. Provides mentorship and guidance to junior cloud engineers to support the continued training and up-skilling of the Cloud engineering team.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary Azure subject matter expert and liaison between FedEx Dataworks, FedEx Cloud Platform (FCP), CloudOps, and application teams, providing technical leadership throughout cloud transformation and migration initiatives.
- Partner with engineering, architecture, platform, and product teams to support the migration of enterprise data and analytics platforms across multi-cloud environments, ensuring alignment with business and technical objectives.
- Provide consultation and hands-on support to teams requiring Azure and GCP expertise, helping drive adoption of cloud best practices, operational excellence, and scalable platform designs.
- Lead collaboration across globally distributed teams to plan, design, and execute complex cloud infrastructure and cloud migration projects.
- Contribute to the architecture, design, and implementation of next-generation data platform capabilities, helping define foundational processes, governance models, and operating structures for enterprise-scale data services.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor to leadership, providing recommendations on cloud strategy, platform architecture, scalability, security, reliability, and operational performance.
- Mentor and develop CloudOps and cloud engineering team members through technical guidance, knowledge sharing, and best practice advocacy, fostering continuous learning and engineering excellence.
- Promote adherence to enterprise technology standards, security requirements, governance policies, and operational procedures across cloud environments.
- Partner with CloudOps and platform engineering teams to ensure the successful delivery, support, monitoring, and continuous improvement of cloud services and infrastructure.
- Champion automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD practices, and AI-assisted engineering approaches to improve productivity, consistency, operational efficiency, and service reliability.
- Drive cross-functional alignment among stakeholders, balancing business priorities with technical requirements to deliver resilient, scalable, and secure cloud solutions.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree/equivalent in computer science, engineering, or information systems and/or related quantitative discipline. Directly related PhD preferred.
Minimum Experience
Seven plus (7+) years’ work experience in cloud engineering or related field. Strong experience providing leadership in a general planning or consulting setting. Strong experience as a leader or a senior member of multi-function project teams. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirements.
