Position Summary

Compliance Technician is responsible for ensuring underground storage tank (UST) and aboveground storage tank (AST) systems comply with state and federal regulations, while performing leak testing, site assessments, and maintenance/repair on fueling equipment at retail and commercial fueling centers. This position performs inspections, testing, and maintenance on UST/AST systems and components — including dispensers, pumps, controllers, tank gauge systems, and point-of-sale (POS) systems — traveling to customer sites daily and, at times, across multiple states with overnight stays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site assessments, surveys, and inspections of underground storage tank (UST) and aboveground storage tank (AST) systems to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and safety standards.
  • Enter and analyze test results using company-provided compliance testing software and communicate findings to the Operations team.
  • Manage and report inventory of parts and supplies on company vehicles.
  • Document inspection results and report any non-compliance issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Travel to customer sites daily to perform required inspections, testing, and maintenance, including multi-state travel with overnight stays as needed.
  • Take daily direction from the Service Manager or Service Dispatcher.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving UST/AST compliance issues.
  • Complete required prerequisite work necessary to obtain and maintain certification from original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
  • Maintain accurate, complete records of inspections, tests, and maintenance activities.
  • Communicate effectively with site personnel and regulatory agencies.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures during inspections and maintenance activities, including customer safety and housekeeping guidelines.
  • Foster a team-oriented, collaborative work environment.
  • Model and promote StationServ's culture and core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications (Must-Have)

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic understanding of UST/AST systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Basic computer skills for data entry and use of company compliance testing software.
  • Ability to distinguish various colors of UST tank top components (essential function of the role).
  • Strong customer service orientation, with the ability to complete work efficiently while maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different sites daily, including multi-state travel with overnight stays as needed (hotel and per diem provided).
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check, DOT physical, and motor vehicle records (MVR) check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in petroleum equipment service, maintenance, or UST/AST compliance.
  • Mechanical aptitude with experience in trades such as HVAC, plumbing, mechanics, electrical work, carpentry, or cable installation.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed outdoors at customer sites in varying weather conditions, with a commitment to safety and quality compliance.
  • Requires daily travel to multiple sites and, at times, multi-state travel.
  • Ability to repetitively lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and standing for 8-10 hours per day.
  • Ability to climb 20-foot extension ladders multiple times daily.
  • Energetic, hands-on attitude with a desire to contribute to company growth.
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance (e.g., 60 minutes) of the assigned location, where specified in the posting.
