Position Summary
Works under limited supervision to operate a track hoe, excavator, backhoe, or other heavy equipment utilized in the Roads, Bridges, and Engineering Department throughout unincorporated Shelby County’s Road system.
Pay Grade: 45H
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education

Minimum Qualifications
- Three (3) years of experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment; AND
- High school diploma or possess a GED.
- PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.Â

Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates several types of construction equipment, (i.e., Gradalls, trackhoes, backhoes, end loaders, motor graders and dozers) safely and efficiently.
- Performs equipment operations within a predetermined area, such as excavating or grading to certain requirements.
- Participates and oversees the cleaning, oiling, greasing and performing other related operator maintenance of equipment.
- Performs other related duties as required or directed.

- Knowledge of all safety procedures.
- Knowledge of equipment maintenance.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering stakes.

Physical Requirements
- Must be in good physical condition and stooping, bending, lifting, climbing and able to work in an outdoor environment and inclement weather.
- Must pass a physical examination.

Special Requirements
- Must possess a valid Class B Tennessee commercial driver’s license or secure one prior to the end of new employee probation.
- Must be able to operate an excavator or backhoe.
- Must submit to and pass drug and alcohol screening.
