Licensed Practical Nurse Lead - Infectious Disease (Health Services)

Position Summary 

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.  

Performs practical nursing duties in a lead capacity for a small unit of operation. Functions in a lead capacity to apply practical nursing skills and to coordinate the day-to-day operations of a small health-care unit; issues assignments and supervises assigned subordinates. 

Pay Grade: 48H 

Minimum Qualifications 

• Two (2) years of experience as a licensed practical nurse with one (1) year in a lead capacity; AND 
• Graduated from a state accredited school of practical nursing program. 
• Experience in a pediatric clinic, home health, or community health setting is preferred. 
• PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Assesses patients, reviews immunization status, administers prescribed vaccines and medications, and monitors for adverse reactions. 
• Conducts health screenings, nutritional assessments, pediatric growth measurements, and other assigned health investigations. 
• Collects, tests, packages, and ships biological specimens in accordance with established laboratory procedures. 
• Performs diagnostic testing, maintains quality-control standards, logs results, and refers abnormal findings to the appropriate healthcare provider. 
• Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care, treatments, test results, and progress in the electronic health record. 
• Provides patient education and coordinates follow-up care, including services related to sexually transmitted infections and other sexual health concerns. 
• Monitors laboratory and medical supplies, medications, equipment, refrigerator temperatures, and inventory to ensure safety and proper resource management. 
• Assists healthcare providers with test results, treatment planning, and continuity of patient care. 
• Participates in public health emergency response duties as assigned and consistent with job classification and training provided in response to natural disasters and threats to public health. 
• Performs other related duties as required or directed.

• Knowledge of basic principles and practices of professional practical nursing. 
• Knowledge of the aims and purposes of public health. 
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. 
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, coworkers, and supervisors. 
• Ability to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly. 
• Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions. 
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to improve program quality and address community health needs. 
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health or surveillance systems used for case tracking and reporting. 

Special Requirements 

• Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one upon date of employment. 
• Must have daily access to an operable automobile and meet county requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment. 
• Must be flexible and available to work after regular scheduled hours and weekends. 
• Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials throughout the duration of employment.
