Responsible for conducting prevention and compliance efforts to support the safety strategies. Assists advisory team in strategic design and change management of safety programs, policies, and procedures relating to new and/or changing workplace safety performance risks, Workers Compensation exposures, or regulations specific to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and FedEx contracted requirements.

Essential Functions

Promotes a “Safety Above All” culture.

Researches safety related technologies and other advances in Safety system management within the industry or per OSHA, PHMSA, and DOT regulations.

Oversees safety quality initiatives and quality action teams (QAT’s).

Identifies improvement opportunities and/or implements safety technology systems that meet business objectives.

Leads cross functional and/or cross operating company projects to support safety projects that impact contract service providers or employees within the workplaces.

Researches, develops and proposes changes to employee and contractor service provider facing process and procedure documentation, such as the Safety Information Guide, facilities design, materials handling, and overall operations environment.

Reviews and analyzes metrics and evaluations as a result of changes to various safety projects.

Develops and facilitates presentations and provides follow up support regarding changes in safety technology systems, programs, and procedures.

Ensures program, product, and vendor success by overseeing roll out of safety program changes.

Maintains knowledge of new and/or existing safety related technologies to provide business requirements and recommendations.

Attends trade shows/conferences and establishes relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Initiates, develops, and maintains relationships with various enforcement and regulatory agencies.

Leads research of emerging industry trends and regulatory requirements.

Leads innovation efforts focused on workplace safety and highway safety.

Works and recommends changes on safety specifications for buildings within the organization to reduce risk, support safety policies and procedures, and aligns to operating company objectives.

Performs other duties as assigned.


This position is eligible for remote work and may be located anywhere within the United States excluding AK, HI and U.S. territories, however if you live within the 50 miles radius of a campus you will be required to work at a FedEx campus location several times per week.


Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Logistics, Public Administration, Transportation, Engineering, or related field required. In addition to minimum experience, high school diploma or GED and four (4) years’ experience is accepted in lieu of degree.

Minimum Experience

Five (5) years’ experience required in safety, logistics or a related field with applicable safety certifications; two (2) years of experience leading and/or facilitating the implementation of successful safety programs. Direct experience with researching regulations and recommending corrective action is preferred.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Professional designation in one or more of the following preferred: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Certified Director of Safety (CDS).

Knowledge of concepts, practices, and industry trends related to industrial/occupational safety.

Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals.

Software skills, including use of Microsoft Office and web-based applications.

Verbal and written communication skills necessary to explain complex and/or confidential information.

Time management and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple projects, appropriately prioritize workload, plan for resources to meet deadlines and goals, and respond to day-to-day functional needs.

Demonstrated ability to build professional rapport and positively influence diverse groups. \UL>
