Position Summary
Works under the general supervision of a Chief Inspector to supervise Field Inspectors review permits for approval and perform field inspections when required. Acts as a liaison between Chief Inspector and Field Inspectors.   
 
Pay Grade: 54
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience in mechanical construction; of which three (3) years of experience in supervising others in mechanical construction or related field; AND
  • High school diploma or possess a GED.
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.
     
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Organizes daily work, reviews and approves permits for processing.
  • Investigates complaints requiring supervisor approval for final determination regarding code compliance.
  • Monitors Field Inspectors to ensure department compliance and safety.
  • Reviews plans and confers with plans examiner when required for code compliance.
  • Acts as Chief Inspector in their absence.
  • Assists Chief Inspector in staff training needs.
  • Completes and submits inspector performance reviews.
  • Handles disgruntled customers and other customer service issues.
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed.
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of applicable related codes and ordinances.
  • Ability to organize, discipline, leads and directs Field Inspectors.
  • Ability to make decisions and tactfully interact with disgruntled customers.
  • Ability to train Inspectors when required.
  • Ability to perform field inspections and investigations when required.
  • Ability to operate a computer.
     

Special Requirements 

  • Must have a valid Tennessee “Class D” Driver’s License 
  • Must hold current Master Gas "A" License and current First-Class Mechanical Contractor’s License; OR 
  • Must hold a CMC or CMC-C Tennessee State License
  • Must possess the physical dexterity to access all areas during construction including, but not limited to, stooping, climbing ladders, accessing attics and walking on uneven terrain.
