Position Summary

This position is funded by a grant for a duration of time as defined by the grantor.  

Provides direction and supervision to assigned staff in applying social work theory and ethical standards within the practice setting. Oversees staff development and training needs and ensures ethical issues are appropriately assessed, addressed, and resolved. 

 

Pay Grade: 51

Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
 

Minimum Qualifications   

  • Three (3) years of experience in professional social work, of which one (1) year must have been in a responsible supervisory or managerial capacity; AND  
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work approved by the National Council on Social Work Education; AND 
  • Current State of Tennessee Social Worker licensure is required.  
  • Experience working with Infectious Diseases is preferred.  
  • PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED.  
     

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the work of assigned social workers and support staff. 
  • Provides leadership, consultation, and guidance on complex case issues, including the development and implementation of case plans. 
  • Assesses employee development needs and provides training and coaching in casework techniques, practices, and professional standards. 
  • Interprets, applies, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations, departmental policies, and procedures. 
  • Coordinates and integrates staff activities to promote efficient, effective service delivery. 
  • Collaborates with clinical and administrative staff to maintain accurate patient databases and ensure compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements. 
  • Plans, schedules, and facilitates individual and group meetings; prepares and presents clear written, statistical, and oral reports. 
  • Collaborates with healthcare providers, community organizations, and other professionals to ensure a continuum of care for clients. 
  • Provides education on prevention, treatment, health maintenance, and stigma reduction. 
  • Performs other related duties as required or directed. 
     

KSAs 

  • Knowledge of social casework principles, methods, objectives, and case management practices, including applicable regulations, agency policies, and County procedures.  
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques, problem-solving methodologies, and assessment of complex social and psychosocial issues affecting individuals and families. 
  • Knowledge of human behavior, development, psychosocial dynamics, and community resources within public social service systems. 
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback, manage conflict, support staff development, and address occupational stress and burnout. 
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, manage unit procedures, and analyze program or case management data. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and to use Microsoft Office and County information systems proficiently. 
     

Special Requirements 

  • Must possess a valid Tennessee driver's license or secure one by date of employment. 
  • Must have access to an operable automobile and meet the County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment. 
  • May be required to travel to other Shelby County offices. 
  • Must maintain all required licenses, certifications, and training credentials throughout the duration of employment.

Shelby County Resident Disclaimer

The residency requirement shall not apply to certain public safety/civil service employees. This means exemption from this policy is in effect for the following departments and positions: (1) Sheriff Deputy Patrol Officers, Deputy Jailers and Dispatchers, employed by the Sheriff Department, (2) Correction Officers employed by the Division of Corrections, (3) Firefighters, Paramedics and Dispatchers employed by the Shelby County Fire Department.
