JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the VAMC Switchboard Supervisor, the Switchboard Operator will provide switchboard operation for the Veteran's Administration Medical Center. The Switchboard Operator will ensure compliance with VAMC - Goodwill Contract. Other duties maybe assigned by the VAMC Switchboard Supervisor.
JOB DUTIES
- Answers all calls within five (5) rings giving operator's name.
- Connects all calls to the proper extension in a professional manner.
- Handles a variety of special long distance calls over a variety of circuits and phone trunks.
- Provides information services to callers.
- Provides emergency response to alarms and codes per established policy.
- Provides paging services as required using the public address system and radio paging.
- Accurately notate required information into the correct log book in a timely manner.

-Office Environment
-24 hour operations
-Must be able to sit for an extended period of time

-Ability to work well with others in a team approach to provide a service.
- Ability to effectively communicate with others in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
-Finger dexterity to operate phone console.
-Pleasant phone voice
-Ability to hear callers and alarm tones and buzzers.
-Ability to see alarm indicators.
-Must have schedule flexibility and able to work any shift.
