Job Summary:

The Warehouse Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, picking, packing, and shipping food products while maintaining food safety, quality, and inventory accuracy. This position requires working in a fast-paced warehouse environment and following all company safety, sanitation, and regulatory guidelines to ensure products are handled properly.

Duties/Responsibilities:



Key Accountabilities

Employee Engagement & Culture

  • Participate in Full Inventory counts by counting assigned areas/items in the warehouse
  • Maintain positive relationships and communications with other employees

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain orderly and clean work area in compliance with Food Bank safety and sanitation policies; ensure that the warehouse facility meets Memphis and Shelby County Health Department guidelines by assisting in daily cleaning as well as the maintenance of the outside perimeters
  • Utilize conscientious and safe handling of all warehouse material handling equipment including pallet jacks, hand dollies, and forklifts in order to avoid personal injury to self, and others and damage to product, equipment, or facility

Operational & Financial Controls

  • Receive, inspect and properly weigh and/or count all incoming products
  • Accurately pull orders for pickup and delivery
  • Load delivery orders and unload shipments as needed
  • Makes sure Agency orders have pallet tags designating what Agency and how many pallets. Every additional pallet should be marked (1 of 2, etc.) and staged together and wrapped
  • Use RF Scanners to complete assigned tasks
  • Monitors current inventory and inventory levels. Performs weekly inventory count, as instructed, by physically counting and accurately recording product quantity and type, notifying the manager immediately of discrepancies or problems

Required or Preferred Qualifications:


Core Competencies

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to write legibly and perform basic math
  • Ability to successfully complete a Safe Food Handling Course
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, knowledge of good record keeping procedures and the ability to maintain accurate and legible records and current files
  • Time management skills with the ability to respond to time-sensitive/critical issues and work overtime as needed to meet deadlines
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Ability to work for long periods of time in temperature-controlled areas such as the cooler and freezer.
  • Ability to work for long periods of time in non-temperature-controlled areas such as the dry storage area.

Knowledge and Experience

Ā 

  • High school diploma or equivalentĀ 
  • Ability to operate a forklift and a manual or powered pallet jack, forklift certification a plus
  • Prior warehouse, production, food service experience preferred
  • Above-average math and analytical skills


Work Environment


  • Ability to work well with donor, volunteers, agency representatives, volunteers, senior aides and other Food Bank staff
  • Acceptance of philosophy of food banking.
