The Plant Quality Manager is a proactive leader who works with the plant operations team to continuously improve the quality that is built into Mauser Packaging Solutions products. Quality Managers are responsible for ensuring product standards and specifications are adhered to, managing the quality system for their assigned location, and ensuring customer satisfaction through excellent Quality.
Responsibilities:
- Rigorously apply safety standards, ensure all team members actively adhere to safety standards and identify any potential risks in their area.
- Implement process improvements with the use of Statistical Process Control (SPC), measurement analysis.
- Define projects regarding customer requirements utilizing tools such as: Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), process flow mapping, control plan documentation and Capability Analysis.
- Ensure CoQ (Costs of Quality) metrics are aligned with the company’s strategic initiatives, including scrap, rework, returns, appraisal and prevention.
- Establish programs to improve metrics using continuous improvement tools as well as actively participates in projects that support Lean Manufacturing initiatives resulting in improved profitability, work flow and team performance. Proactively works to improve quality systems internally and externally to the plant.
- Utilize and teach Lean tools including 5S, Kaizen, quick changeover, value stream mapping, mistake proofing, etc.Â
- Participate in Kaizen events as necessary.
- Interact with production employees daily and assist where needed to ensure there is adequate support from the Quality department to meet production efficiencies and goals.
- Review, measure and proactively study KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) in an effort to prevent substandard product that fails to meet customer specifications.
- Supervise and manage daily activities of all Plant Quality team members.
- Manage HFI (Hold for Inspection) System. Measure, quantify and communicate HFIs to the production floor and all other necessary parties.
- Communicate and investigate customer inquiries as they relate back to quality.Â
- Work with Operations team to find solutions to customer complaints focusing on permanent corrective action.
- Interact with production employees and Plant Management to determine root cause analysis for quality defects and develops resolutions to correct deficiencies.
- Audit, summarize and review with plant management team the plant quality system.Â
- Lead and facilitate monthly Quality Management Review meetings.
- Prepare and communicate month-end quality report summaries within plant and corporate.
- Travel as necessary to other plants to establish best practices or to work with others in determining root cause or corrective action to quality issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Operations or Business Management.
- Minimum 5 years of Quality Management experience in a high volume, fast-paced manufacturing environment, managing direct reports.Â
- In depth experience and knowledge of preventive quality engineering techniques such as PFMEA, control plans, SPC and process mapping.
- In depth experience and knowledge of utilizing Lean manufacturing practices including value stream mapping, Kaizen and Pareto Analysis. Six Sigma Green Belt or higher preferred.
- Experience interacting directly with customers and promptly addressing customer complaints.Â
- Experience working with engineering change notices.Â
- ASQ CMQ/OE or CQE Certification.Â
- Strong problem-solving skills such as 8D, Ishikawa and/or A3.Â
- Strong interpersonal skills with the willingness and ability to treat team members with respect, communicate clearly, listen and coach.Â
- Infinity Quality System software experience or similar.Â
- Experience interacting directly with suppliers and issuing scorecards.Â
