General Summary:
Behind every successful student is a team of passionate and dedicated educators. As a Middle School Band and General Music Teacher, you will provide engaging, high-quality music instruction to students across multiple grade levels. This role focuses on developing students’ musical skills, creativity, and appreciation for music through meaningful instruction, consistent practice, and performance opportunities, while fostering a supportive and structured learning environment.
What You Will Do:
Instruction & Student Learning
- Design and implement lesson plans aligned to Tennessee State Standards
- Teach instrumental and general music across assigned grade levels
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs
- Assess student progress and communicate outcomes clearly
- Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college
- Assess students regularly and refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs
- Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education
- Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs and improve instructional practices throughout the school
Band & Music Program Development
- Design and support a comprehensive band program
- Maintain a music library and instructional materials
Band & Music Program SupportÂ
- Supervise after-school music & band activities and ensure student safety
- Maintain inventory of instruments and equipment
- Assist the School Finance Operations Manager & school administrators with logistics for events and trips
- Support fundraising efforts and family engagement
Performances & Activities
- Plan and direct at least two performances during the school year
- Prepare students for school and community performances
- Organize rehearsals and events
- Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior in all interactions with students, teammates, and stakeholders
- Actively participate in professional development activities, and work closely with lead teachers, principal, and instructional coaches
- Performs other duties as assigned
What You Will Bring:
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of child and youth cognitive development and different learning styless
Strong knowledge of instrumental techniques (brass, woodwind, percussion) and score study
Effective classroom management and student engagement strategies
Strong organizational, collaboration, and communication skills
Ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents and community
Ability to manage multiple priorities, schedules, and events
Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Education or related fieldÂ
Master’s degree preferred
Licensure Requirements:
Valid teaching license and endorsement in Instrumental/General Music K–12 (429) with the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE), or a valid Special Education teaching license and endorsement from a state that offers reciprocity with Tennessee.
Experience Requirements:
2+ years of classroom teaching instrumental music
