Welder / Fabricator
General Description
The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for laying out, fabricating, assembling, and welding metal components and equipment using technical drawings, specifications, and other provided information. This position works primarily with steel and aluminum and utilizes MIG and TIG welding processes to produce quality fabricated components and assemblies.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Cut, fit, weld, and assemble metal components used in the fabrication of production equipment utilizing MIG and TIG welding processes.
- Fabricate components and assemblies using steel, aluminum, and other specified materials.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, measurements, and manufacturer information to accurately fabricate equipment and parts.
- Design and fabricate components or equipment needed to meet special or non-standard production requirements.
- Install and remove equipment and components using appropriate power tools, hand tools, and related equipment.
- Design and fabricate holding fixtures and jigs to support efficient and repeatable production of fabricated parts.
- Inspect completed work to ensure components meet required specifications and quality standards.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work as required.
- Monitor inventory of welding and fabrication supplies and communicate or coordinate replenishment needs as necessary.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable workplace safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
- Working knowledge of MIG and TIG welding processes.
- Knowledge of the properties and characteristics of metals commonly used in welding, cutting, and fabrication, including steel and aluminum.
- Knowledge of welding materials, consumables, and appropriate welding techniques for various applications.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, measurements, specifications, and fabrication instructions.
- Ability to accurately use measuring devices and perform basic calculations related to fabrication.
- Ability to select and safely operate appropriate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication equipment.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and appropriate safety precautions, procedures, and practices associated with welding and metal fabrication.
- Ability to fabricate components accurately and consistently according to established specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
Physical Demands
This position requires participation in production and fabrication activities and may include:
- Frequent walking and standing.
- Bending, reaching, and other physical movements associated with fabrication and production work.
- Frequent lifting and handling of materials weighing approximately 10–50 pounds.
- Regular use of hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication equipment.
