SUMMARY: The Residential Counselor works as part of a multi-disciplinary team in providing supervision to adult residents. GLOM's residential program includes both crisis stabilization and transitional housing services. The Residential Counselor provides services including but not limited to client supervision, transporting residents on outings, cleaning, cooking, crisis intervention, and medication management. The Residential Counselor also supports and assists individuals in developing independent living skills and in meeting rehabilitation goals. Residential Counselor must demonstrate an acceptable level of maturity, good judgment, and emotional stability. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including some weekend and overnight shifts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and 聽maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients being served
- Assist/Perform 聽聽all areas of bed side care and first aid as needed
- Maintain a 聽clean and debris free workspace
- Maintain a 聽professional working relationship with contract agency staff, doctors, 聽clinicians and caseworkers
- Follow and 聽uphold all GLOM and facility policies and procedures
- Provide 聽incoming shift staff with a detailed pass down relating to all 聽issues/clients.聽
- Actively 聽participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning 聽meetings as related to clients
- Attend 聽scheduled contract agency meetings as a GLOM representative
- Demonstrates 聽knowledge of crisis management and intervention
- Any and all 聽other duties as assigned by your supervisor. 聽Essential job functions 聽聽聽聽聽may be added to, deleted and/or changed at the discretion of management
QUALIFICATIONS:聽
- At least 1 year of mental health experience.
- 聽At least 1 year of experience with working with incarcerated individuals.
- High School Diploma or GED聽
- College degree is preferred, but not 聽聽聽聽聽required.聽
- PPD test for tuberculosis and satisfactory 聽聽聽聽聽results聽
- Free from state sanctions 聽
- Valid driver license聽
- DMV printout 聽
- CPR/First Aid/BLS certification Previous 聽experience with population to be served and/or work in a similar program 聽聽setting preferred 聽
- One (1) year of experience preferred. 聽Understanding of psychiatric illness and its treatment, and knowledge of 聽聽psychotropic medication聽
- Able to read and write clearly and 聽聽accurately聽
- Act as a team member providing input and 聽reporting observations and concerns in regard to client symptoms and 聽聽symptom management
- Demonstrate the ability to act a part of a team 聽聽and in an appropriate manner in a crisis situation
- Ability to direct and manage subordinate staff 聽聽and lead by example

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:聽
路 Able to climb stairs multiple times a day and be able to lift and/or carry 25 pounds or less
路 Able to sit, rise, kneel, squat, twist, pull bend multiple times a day聽
路 Able to handle hazardous waste (Blood borne pathogens, hospital waste, chemical &infectious) and sharp instruments and needles
路 Able to walk with items in hand, grasp and reach as needed聽
路 Able to provide as needed bedside care and first aid, as needed
路 Able to perform with repetitive maneuvers and manual dexterity
