2026 Department of Environmental Management (DEM) SEASONAL PROGRAM

The State annually employs qualified responsible individuals in a variety of positions with the State's Parks, Beaches, Research Programs, and Administrative Offices during a specific limited period.  Applicants will be considered for open seasonal positions based on their qualifications, availability, and willingness to travel to the assigned location (s).

Many of the classifications have a three-step pay-grade.  An employee in any of these classifications is paid at the first step during his or her first season.  An employee returning to the same three-step classification for a second season is paid at the second step during that season.  An employee to the same three-step classification for a third or subsequent session is paid at the third step during that season.

This position works under the supervision of a superior within the RI Division of Agriculture within the mosquito abatement, animal health, and/or produce safety sections.

Illustrative Examples of Work Performed

This position compiles, updates and analyzes extremely complex sets of data for technical reports and assignments, performs complex editing of a difficult nature including but not limited to, Assisting in the inspection of produce farms to ensure safety of product; Assisting in the identification of produce that may not be safe for consumption; Assisting in the trapping of mosquitos for the detection of arboviral diseases; Assisting with identification of mosquito species that are trapped for arboviral surveillance; Assisting with the response activities of the Division if produce that is unfit for consumption is detected; Assisting with the response activities of the Division if arbovirus is detected; Assisting with inspections of livestock and companion animals to determine the health and welfare of these animals; and do related work as required. This position may supervise other seasonal employees as directed by a supervisor. This position requires the exercise of independent judgment, exceptional written and verbal communication skills, and excellent computer skills. This position may be required to perform tasks outside of regular business hours and in field conditions and must be able to lift moderate weight (40-60 pounds).
