Job Description:

Part-time Opportunity, minimum 8 hours a week. Fridays required @ 8 hours. Additional hours available in Middletown.

Provides prescribed dental hygiene/periodontal services to patients in a caring and professional manner.  Perform all necessary oral prophylactic services including initial examination, x-rays, scaling, polishing, fluoride treatments, pit and fissure sealant, subgingival root planning and curettage. Educate patients in the proper methods of oral hygiene and plaque control.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • RDH degree from accredited dental hygiene school required.
  • Licensure - State of Connecticut dental hygiene license.
  • Minimum of 1 year clinical experience preferred
  • Interest in providing care to diverse patient population.
  • Commitment to preventive dental care.
  • For Mobile Dental program: Reliable access to an automobile and a valid driver’s license or reliable access to transportation to assigned work areas.  
  • Written and oral bilingual fluency in language spoken by our patient population (for example, English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
  • CHC requires as a condition of employment current American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer and AED (CPR/FPR/AED) certification. The only acceptable alternative is current American Heart Association BLS/AED for Healthcare Providers certification. 

PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT

Requires good to excellent manual dexterity and fine motor coordination; good vision; physical mobility and flexibility; good reflexes; light lifting required; potential exposure to blood borne pathogens through direct patient contact - must follow OSHA standards and universal precautions.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Good verbal skills to communicate with patients and staff daily.  Good listening skills for understanding patients.  Good penmanship and clear concise writing skills for dental record documentation. Proficiency in the use of computers and software applications.

CONFIDENTIALITY OF INFORMATION

Confidentiality of patient and business information is a requirement. Confidentiality of patient and business information is a requirement.  Full access to patient medical records and encounter data. Confidentiality must be maintained according to CHC policies.

1.         Responsibility for client data entry.

2.         Access to medical system information.

3.         Confidential patient correspondence.

Clinical

1.         Provides oral prophylaxis, scaling and root planing, sealants, dental and periodontal charting and topical preventive treatments for patient population.  To meet productivity targets quarterly

2.         Provides appropriate individualized patient education for maintenance of oral health.  Emphasizes preventive techniques and compliance with recall intervals.

3.         Provides radiographic services.

4.         Reviews patient medical history prior to start of visit. Maintains accurate documentation of dental hygiene services provided and a hygiene assessment including periodontal charting by completion of the electronic dental record at the end of each visit.

5.         Maintains the treatment area, equipment, instruments and supplies in proper working order daily.  Strictly follows safety and infection control standards.

6.         Shares responsibility for the maintenance of the log book required documentation and task list including the autoclave with the dental assistant at a fixed site.

7.         Ensures all electronic charting, documentation, and telephone encounters are in compliance with agency standards.

Administrative

1.         Participates in assessment of dental services and quality assurance program.

2.         Maintains regular communication with the dental director, staff dentists and office manager.
