The primary purpose and function of the Relief Veterinarian is to provide preventative care, diagnosis and treatment of diseases and injuries of Pets. Essential responsibilities include ensuring the safety of pets, clients, and associates by utilizing safe restraining techniques, following protocols, and maintaining clean treatment areas. The veterinarian will obtain relevant client information, maintain medical records, educate clients about preventative care and treatments, provide professional and efficient service including prescribing and administering preventative care, and communicate diagnosis and treatment plans effectively. Compliance with local, state, and federal laws, including controlled substance inventory, is required. The role also involves understanding state guidelines for veterinary assistants and technicians and performing other assigned duties. Qualifications include ability to multi-task, strong communication and organizational skills, surgical skills, problem-solving, client service, intellectual ability, compassion for pet care, mathematical and computer skills, and management ability. The candidate must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, a valid veterinary license, and DEA license. The job may require working more than 40 hours per week including weekends and evenings, and involves physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and exposure to pets and certain hazards.
