Description

The Ice Arena General Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, operation, and financial performance of the Breezy Point Resort ice arena. This role oversees daily operations, staff management, and facility maintenance while also driving revenue growth through programming, partnerships, and events.

The General Manager plays a critical role in positioning the arena as a premier destination for hockey, camps, tournaments, and recreational skating, serving both resort guests and the surrounding community.

1. Business Development & Revenue Growth

  • Develop and execute strategies to increase ice utilization and overall revenue 
  • Build and maintain relationships  with hockey associations, schools, camps, and tournament organizers 
  • Identify and secure new business  opportunities including tournaments, leagues, clinics, and group rentals 
  • Collaborate with resort leadership to create integrated packages and experiences (lodging + ice + events) 

  

2. Arena Operations

  • Oversee day-to-day arena operations, including ice scheduling, programming, and event coordination 
  • Ensure high-quality ice  conditions and overall facility standards 
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams  on refrigeration systems, equipment, and building operations 
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and risk management practices 

  

3. Programming & Scheduling

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive ice schedule including: 
    • Hockey leagues and practices 
    • Figure skating programs 
    • Camps, clinics, and special events 
  • Maximize ice usage while balancing user groups and community programming   

4. Staff Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise arena staff (full-time, part-time, seasonal) 
  • Develop staff schedules and ensure proper coverage for all activities 
  • Establish performance expectations and provide ongoing coaching and support 
  • Foster a positive,  service-oriented team culture   

5. Financial Management

  • Develop and manage annual budgets for the arena 
  • Monitor financial performance, including revenue, expenses, and profitability 
  • Implement cost controls and identify opportunities for revenue growth 
  • Oversee billing, payroll coordination, and vendor relationships   

6. Guest Experience & Community Relations

  • Ensure a high level of customer service consistent with Breezy Point Resort standards 
  • Serve as primary contact for  guests, user groups, and partner organizations 
  • Address customer concerns and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner 
  • Represent the arena in the  community to build awareness and partnerships 

Requirements

  •  Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field (preferred) 
  • 3–5+ years of experience in ice arena, sports facility, or recreation management 
  • Demonstrated ability to drive revenue, build partnerships, and grow programming 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills 
  • Knowledge of ice rink operations  and refrigeration systems preferred 
  • Financial management and budgeting experience required 
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays   
  • Ability to work in a cold environment for extended periods 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally 
  • Frequent standing, walking, and coordination of activities throughout the facility 
  • Must be willing to undergo a background screening
