Job description:

POSITION SUMMARY: The primary purpose of the Maintenance Tech position is to assist the maintenance department with the general upkeep and appearance of the facility to ensure a safe, clean, and comfortable environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position.   • Participates in setting maintenance standards.
  • Performing light repairs.
  • Performing assisting skilled staff when needed.
  • Ensure seasonal tasks are completed (i.e. mowing the grass, shoveling sidewalks)
  • Assist with moving of furniture, handling equipment.
  • Reporting any issue that require further attention to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensure that appropriate personal protective equipment used in the handling of infectious materials is available and easily accessible to maintenance personnel.
  • Ensure equipment is cleaned and properly stored at the end of the shift.
  • Label or tag equipment contaminated with blood or other infectious materials prior to sending for repair or decontamination.

路 High School Diploma or equivalent

路 Must have, as a minimum, one year of experience in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.

路 Must provide evidence of being free of tuberculosis infection upon hire and as set forth by the policies of the facility.

路 Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

路 Must possess the ability to make independent decision when circumstances warrant such action.

路 Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

路 Ability to maintain the care and use of supplies, equipment, etc., and maintain the appearance of work areas; must perform regular inspections of resident rooms/units for order, safety, and proper performance of equipment.

路 Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works throughout the facility (i.e. resident rooms, therapy rooms, etc.).
  • Moves intermittently during working hours.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions and may need to reschedule maintenance activities.
  • Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to injury from falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc., as well as to reactions from dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
  • Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including TB and the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
  • May be subject to the handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • May be required to work in cramped spaces and in adverse weather conditions.

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS (with or without the aid of mechanical devices):

路 Must be able to move intermittently throughout the work day.

路 Must be able to cope with the mental emotional and stress of the position.

  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively.
  • Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility which may include a medical and physical examination.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds. Requires infrequent lifting of more weight up to 50 pounds. Occasional pushing and pulling of carts.

路 May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
