Job Description and Responsibilities

TheraPeds Partners is hiring a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) for a full-time, school-based opportunity in Merrillville, Indiana. This position serves students across PreK–12, as well as transition-age students (up to age 13) during the 2026–2027 school year. Position Details
  • Full-time school-based opportunity with a 8–12 hour weekly schedule
  • 2026–2027 academic year (August through May/June)
  • Provide specialized educational support for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (DHH) across PreK–12, as well as transition-age students (up to age 13)
  • On-site, in-person position
  • Collaborate with educational teams to promote student access to instruction, communication, and academic success
  • Participate in student evaluations, IEP meetings, progress monitoring, consultation, and educational planning
  • Maintain accurate documentation, service logs, and compliance with district and state requirements
  • Guaranteed paid hours include direct services, documentation, planning, meetings, travel between school sites, and administrative responsibilities
  • Receive ongoing collaboration and professional support from both the partnering school district and the TheraPeds Partners team
  • Competitive hourly compensation $55-60/per hour.
Responsibilities

As the district's Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, you will:

  • Deliver specialized instruction that addresses each student's communication, academic, and functional needs.
  • Conduct educational assessments and use evaluation results to guide instructional planning and service recommendations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) while serving as the case manager for assigned students.
  • Track student progress and modify instructional approaches based on data and ongoing performance.
  • Partner with parents, teachers, therapists, and administrators to provide coordinated support across educational settings.
  • Maintain timely documentation, student records, and compliance with special education requirements.
  • Consult with classroom staff regarding accommodations, instructional strategies, and supports that promote student success.
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Deaf Education, Special Education, or a related field
  • Valid Indiana certification in Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) or eligibility to obtain certification
  • 1+ years of experience in a school setting preferred
  • Experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing
  • Knowledge of IEP development and special education compliance
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Proficient in use of technology
  • Fingerprint background clearance
  • Ability to collaborate with school staff and parents with a demonstrated ability to exercise a high level of tact and discretion in both internal and external communications

Physical Requirements

Working and playing with students requires that employees must be able to perform the necessary physical movement functions, as needed, such as lifting, sitting, walking, standing, crawling, and engaging with students in all physical locations and activities, while adhering to the duties outlined by the district.
