KLXS-III Artemis – Orion Spacecraft Test Engineer/Orion Floor Facilitator

Join the team in support of NASA at the Kennedy Space Center (KSC) on the Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program (LX) Support Services Contract Three (KLXS III) contract. This program provides engineering and technical services, program and business management support services and administrative support services to the EGS Artemis Program. The contract also includes support for ground systems and spaceflight systems planning and design; project management and integration; operations integration and analysis; technical requirements development, management, and compliance; cost, risk, information and configuration management; and schedule integration and analysis.

Location: Kennedy Space Center, FL 

Work Schedule: Five (5) days/week, on-site; occasional weekend and shift work.

Position Summary: This position supports operations integration activities for the Orion Production Operations (OPO) Branch, Operations and Test Management Division of NASA’s EGS program office, located at the KSC. The successful candidate will support assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) activities of the Orion spacecraft prior to turnover to EGS for processing and launch. The primary duty of this position is to support assembly, integration, and test activities for Orion modules and missions. This role also includes responsibilities to function as a NASA/Orion ‘on-floor’ presence in the Industrial Operational Zone (IOZ) across 1st and 2nd shifts, delivering real-time insight into daily production activities and the NASA Floor point of contact (POC) for Assembly, Test, and Launch Operations (ATLO) Production Integrators and Floor Supervisors. The position is responsible for promptly identifying and reporting issues and ensuring timely communication with the appropriate OPO Flow Lead.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily support to Orion assembly, integration, and test team activities to ensure tests are planned, coordinated, and executed to meet requirements.
  • Perform assembly and test procedure planning, development, reviews, and execution for active on-console test support.
  • Execute test room pre- and post-test operational configurations.
  • Perform assembly and test data analysis, test documentation processing, and data management.
  • Assists in support planning and development of tools to manage test tracking.
  • Provide technical operational support and insight to the team for all planned assembly and test operations to include anomalies recovery and unplanned impacts.
  • Partner with prime contractor and/or international partners to achieve technical and schedule performance commitments for Orion module production.
  • Apply engineering techniques and lessons learned to support future operational campaigns.
  • Keeps management informed of work status and progress in meeting milestones and deadlines, as well as problem identification and proposed resolutions.
  • As a team member, provide inputs with clear communication and understanding of performance-to-plan, risks, and other technical, schedule, and budgetary impacts.
  • Attend program panels/boards related to program production decisions.
  • Remain cognizant of new and emerging production/test opportunities, tools, capabilities, and strategies. Look for process improvement opportunities.
  • Support ‘what-if’ assessments, trade studies with schedule evaluations and analysis.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in Orion/EGS systems engineering processes and spacecraft operations.
  • Knowledge of spacecraft modules, facilities, transportation modes, test integration, and processing operations.
  • Knowledge of Concept of Operations development for spacecraft processing.
  • Knowledge of aerospace systems, structures, materials, kinematics and mechanics, aerodynamics, and fluids.
  • Proficiency in technical document reviews, including design drawings.
  • Flexible to dynamic work demands, shift work, in a multi-tasking work environment.
  • Must be able to work with minimal direct supervision while meeting customer deadlines.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work odd hours and various shits, including weekends as required, to support spacecraft processing schedules.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment co-located with customers.
  • Effective and clear communicator with the ability to present technical status to all levels of leadership.
  • Proven work experience as a cohesive team member with many different technical experts in a dynamic, schedule-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook, as well as commercial applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Teams.

Education: 

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in an Engineering discipline. 

Experience: 

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of related experience.
