Description

A.T. Still University's Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) is seeking an exempt CCU Director, Assistant Professor, General Dentist on the Mesa, Arizona campus. This position will promote a culture of professionalism, respect, collegiality, diversity, and humanistic education while advancing the mission and goals of ASDOH and A.T. Still University through excellence in patient care, teaching, scholarship, and service. Provide leadership, direct supervision, instruction, assessment, and mentorship of predoctoral dental students in comprehensive general dentistry while facilitating student learning, professional development, and achievement of clinical competency through clinical, preclinical, and classroom instruction. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administration to support comprehensive patient-centered care and effective clinical operations, including quality assurance, patient safety, infection control, risk management, compliance, and accreditation activities. Support the integration of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences in the delivery and management of each patient’s care and clinical experience.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Promote evidence-based practice, professionalism, ethical decision-making, and effective patient communication while overseeing comprehensive, patient-centered care and clinical operations within the assigned CCU. Collaborate with faculty, staff, and specialty disciplines to support comprehensive treatment planning, continuity of care, quality assurance, patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide direct clinical supervision, instruction, assessment, and mentorship to predoctoral dental students in comprehensive general dentistry in clinical, preclinical, laboratory, and classroom settings. Facilitate competency development in diagnosis, treatment planning, restorative and prosthodontic dentistry, digital dentistry technologies and workflows, and other areas of comprehensive patient care.
  • Evaluate and document student performance and progression toward clinical competency; provide timely feedback, mentorship, and individualized educational guidance; and support faculty calibration and consistency in clinical assessment.
  • Provide leadership and oversight of assigned CCU operations, including faculty and staff supervision as delegated, patient flow and management, coordination with other clinical areas, and appropriate documentation within the electronic health record.
  • Participate in school, university, and professional committees, governance and accreditation activities, faculty development, and community outreach initiatives while engaging in scholarly and professional activities consistent with faculty rank, expertise, and workload.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • DDS or DMD from an institution accredited by CODA, or completion of an advanced education program accredited by CODA.
  • Eligibility for Arizona dental licensure required.
  • Academic experience in clinical education preferred; knowledge of digital dentistry; 5+ years of clinical dentistry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of general dentistry, patient-centered care, clinical education, digital dentistry, and applicable standards of quality, safety, compliance, and accreditation.
  • Skills: Strong clinical, teaching, leadership, communication, organizational, digital dentistry, and problem-solving skills.
  • Abilities: Ability to work independently and collaboratively, exercise sound clinical judgment, mentor and evaluate students, lead faculty and staff, and effectively manage multiple priorities in a dynamic academic clinical environment.
