Position Summary:

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for managing and overseeing general accounting operations, preparing financial statements, and ensuring the integrity of financial data. This role supports financial planning, analysis, and reporting, working closely with the Director of Accounting to maintain compliance with regulations and support strategic financial goals. The Senior Staff Accountant plays a key role in the month-end and year-end closing processes, reconciliations, and audits to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and maintain financial records, including general ledger entries, account reconciliations, and monthly closing activities.
  • Oversee all aspects of accounts receivable and ensuring accuracy of all accounts receivable activities.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliations, including bank statements, intercompany general ledger accounts, and balance sheets.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting efforts by providing relevant financial data and analysis.
  • Assist in internal and external audits by preparing schedules, providing documentation, and answering audit queries.
  • Prepare tax filings, regulatory reports, and compliance documentation.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting and analysis.
  • Assist with special projects, such as system upgrades, implementations, and process optimizations.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or a related field, with experience in general ledger functions and financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or Lawson) and Microsoft Excel, with advanced skills in data analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and time management skills, with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

 

Physical Demands:

  • Primarily a sedentary role, with the need to work on a computer for extended periods.

  • Standard office environment, with a professional and collaborative atmosphere.
  • Fast-paced setting, particularly during month-end and year-end closing periods.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Travel will be required, particularly during the first 3-6 months of training and transition. Additionally, occasional travel to company locations or for professional development may be required.

 

Equipment Used:

  • Accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Lawson).
  • Standard office equipment, including computers, phones, and printers.
  • Spreadsheet and data analysis tools, primarily Microsoft Excel.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but may mentor or provide guidance to junior accounting staff as needed.
