Job Summary:

The duties and responsibilities of the Nurse Manager include managing and training all direct care staff and overseeing the health and wellness of residents.

Job Qualifications:

Education: Graduate of an accredited Diploma, Associate or Baccalaureate School of Nursing

Licensure: Registered Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse with an active license to practice in the state of Texas

Experience: Minimum of three years in nursing experience in long-term or other health care setting.

Skills: Clinical skills, leadership, and communications, computer knowledge, excellent customer service skills. Basic computer skills.

Transportation: Ability to ensure timely arrival and stable transportation.

Exemption Status: Exempt/Non-Exempt

Environmental and Working Conditions:

The Nurse Manager works both in a healthcare and an office environment but must also be able to move throughout the buildings and grounds as needed throughout the day. It is possible that the work may include limited exposure to residents and/or patients with AIDS, HIV, and hepatitis B viruses involving Risk Classification Categories 1, 2, and 3**. Environmental conditions will fluctuate. To be qualified for the position, applicants and teammates will have the ability to work in an environment conducive to caring for residents, with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a direct threat to themselves or others.

** Universal Precautions Risk Classification Categories **

  • Tasks may involve exposure to blood or body fluids.
  • Tasks do not involve contact with blood or body fluids but could result in performing a Category 1 task.
  • Tasks do not involve any risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.

Physical and Mental Effort:

The Nurse Manager works both in a healthcare and an office environment but must also be able to move throughout the buildings and grounds as needed throughout the day. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Requires working under some stressful conditions to meet deadlines.

Essential Functions:

Evaluates and regularly re-evaluates the nursing needs of the client initiating and/or updating the plan of treatment as directed by the D.O.N. and physician.

Reports changes in resident's physical/emotional condition, reaction to medications and treatments, and signs and symptoms indicative of a complication to the Unit Manager and physician.

Administers direct resident services requiring specialized nursing skills.

Reports accidents and incidents when they occur.

Carries out physician's orders in an effective and efficient manner.

Communicates with co-workers at all levels to adequately meet the needs of residents.

Demonstrated supervisory and managerial skills.

Excellent technical, assessment and documented skills.

Ability to organize work flow, respond to emergencies and note detail.

Other duties as assigned

Establish and encourage an atmosphere of optimism, warmth, and interest in residents' activity preferences and needs.
