IT Specialist
Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced IT professional to support information technology and systems operations for our specialty surgical hospital. This role plays a critical part in maintaining a secure, reliable, and compliant technology environment across clinical and administrative operations. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of healthcare IT infrastructure, network security, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA), demonstrate sound judgment in evaluating and implementing new technology, and work closely with hospital leadership and managed service partners to ensure operational efficiency and patient care continuity.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site IT support for the hospital, managing day-to-day operations across servers, network infrastructure, workstations, and connected medical/clinical devices, while coordinating with managed IT/ISP partners on shared infrastructure.
- Design, implement, and maintain network documentation and diagrams covering all connected devices - servers, workstations, access points, printers, phones, IoT devices, and network appliances - to support security posture and operational continuity.
- Support HIPAA Security Risk Analyses and maintain the hospital's Risk Management Plan, identifying vulnerabilities and driving remediation efforts across systems and departments.
- Provide technical and process expertise to hospital leadership and cross-functional teams, communicating the operational and financial impact of IT initiatives and risks in terms leadership can act on.
- Evaluate cloud and platform solutions (e.g., Microsoft 365, Azure, Active Directory) to modernize infrastructure, improve efficiency, and strengthen security posture.
- Collaborate in the design, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of core hospital systems and integrations, including EHR platforms, financial/reporting tools, and other clinical or administrative software, with attention to upstream/downstream system impacts.
- Manage relationships and coordinate work with external partners and vendors supporting hospital systems (managed IT/ISP providers, EHR vendors, and other technology partners).
- Build and maintain broad working knowledge across hospital operations by staying current on clinical, administrative, and facilities initiatives that intersect with IT and systems needs.
- Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends - including automation, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence - and evaluate their application to current or future hospital IT processes.
- May mentor or guide other staff on IT-related processes and lead initiatives independently, given the role's function as sole on-site IT professional.
Education and Experience/Skills
- At least 2-5 years of IT experience, including systems administration, network management, and security in a professional environment; healthcare/hospital IT experience preferred.
- Experience operating independently as a primary or sole IT resource, with demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities across facilities and systems responsibilities.
- Working knowledge of HIPAA security requirements and healthcare regulatory compliance.
- No certifications required; A+ certification preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex systems and translate technical risk into operational terms.
- Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and project management skills.
- Process-oriented with strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent assignments across IT and facilities domains.
