Healthcare United is seeking a full-time Primary Care Medical Director to provide clinical leadership for an established value-based healthcare organization in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Medical Director will provide direct patient care while leading physicians, advanced practice providers, and multidisciplinary clinical teams. This position is responsible for maintaining high standards of care, supporting clinical performance, mentoring providers, and advancing quality improvement and population health initiatives.

The organization serves medically complex and socially vulnerable patients through an integrated care model that includes primary care, behavioral health, pharmacy, care management, social services, and additional onsite support.

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive primary care to medically complex patients
• Lead and support physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical team members
• Maintain clinical standards, protocols, and quality expectations
• Mentor providers and support ongoing professional development
• Oversee clinical performance, patient outcomes, utilization, and documentation quality
• Support the management of complex chronic diseases, behavioral health conditions, substance use disorders, and infectious diseases
• Collaborate with operational and clinical leadership
• Drive quality improvement, population health, and value-based care initiatives
• Help reduce avoidable emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and readmissions
• Review clinical trends and identify opportunities to improve patient care
• Support provider recruitment, onboarding, and retention
• Maintain an active clinical presence and patient panel
• Participate in leadership meetings and rotating call responsibilities




Requirements

• MD or DO degree
• Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine required
• Active Louisiana medical license or eligibility to obtain
• Active DEA registration or eligibility to obtain
• Significant primary care experience required
• Previous Medical Director, Lead Physician, or clinical leadership experience required
• Experience with value-based care, population health, community health, FQHC, or underserved populations strongly preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, mentoring, and organizational skills
• Comfortable managing medically and socially complex patient populations
• No new graduates
• No visa sponsorship available
