The Manager, Anesthesia assumes responsibility of the daily operations and activities of the Anesthesia Technology Department, according to the standards set up by the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists and Technicians (ASATT). Demonstrates ability to organize and coordinate all the functions of the department: airway management and ventilation, fluids, whole blood and blood component management, pharmacology, pathophysiology and anesthesia management, utilization of biotechnology and monitoring equipment, and supply management. Adheres to the UHealth and unit level policies and procedures and actively participates in performance improvement activities.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the anesthesia technology department, working under the direction of an anesthesia care provider.
  • Administer the staff operational schedules to provide 24-hour coverage for the department.
  • Ensure efficient and cost-effective performance in accordance with department operating budgets, goals and objectives.
  • Participate in staff recruitment and retention of personnel.
  • Oversee the orientation and on-boarding of new hires, support continuing education, and the validation of their unit specific competencies (probation and annual).
  • Maintain and organize the anesthesia environment, equipment, supplies and personnel to facilitate department functions, demonstrating operational familiarity in relation to critical and non-critical equipment.
  • Perform quality controls with various anesthesia machines to include reactions to device alarms, troubleshooting, testing, and diagnosis.
  • Maintain effective communication with members of the UHealth medical staff, medical directors, administrative team, and surgical and perioperative services leaders.
  • Establish and continuously assess the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.  Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Associate degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Certification in relevant specialty or field

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
