Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This position will play a key role in processing payroll, supporting the month-end close process, and assisting the Financial Controller with daily accounting operations.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Experience with payroll processing is required, while familiarity with government contracting or project accounting is desirable.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Payroll Administration
- Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Maintain employee payroll records, timekeeping, and payroll-related documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
- Coordinate payroll changes, including new hires, employee status changes, and terminations.
- Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll tax reporting and year-end activities.
- Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Assist the Financial Controller with month-end and year-end close activities.
- Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
- Assist with general ledger maintenance and financial reporting.
- Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
- Maintain fixed asset schedules, prepaid expenses, accruals, and balance sheet accounts reconciliations.
- Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
- Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation and responding to information requests.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, and Project Management teams.
- Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
- 2–5 years of accounting experience.
- Payroll processing experience required.
- Experience with general ledger accounting and month-end closing.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Government contracting or project accounting experience is a plus.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting government contractors.
- Familiarity with FAR, DCAA, or project accounting concepts.
- Experience with payroll reconciliations and labor allocations.
- Knowledge of project costing and contract billing.
