Role Overview: We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This position will play a key role in processing payroll, supporting the month-end close process, and assisting the Financial Controller with daily accounting operations.

The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, and enjoys working in a collaborative environment. Experience with payroll processing is required, while familiarity with government contracting or project accounting is desirable.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Payroll Administration

    • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on schedule.
    • Maintain employee payroll records, timekeeping, and payroll-related documentation.
    • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
    • Coordinate payroll changes, including new hires, employee status changes, and terminations.
    • Reconcile payroll reports and assist with payroll tax reporting and year-end activities.
    • Respond to employee payroll inquiries and resolve discrepancies.


Accounting & Financial Operations

    • Assist the Financial Controller with month-end and year-end close activities.
    • Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
    • Assist with general ledger maintenance and financial reporting.
    • Support accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
    • Maintain fixed asset schedules, prepaid expenses, accruals, and balance sheet accounts reconciliations.
    • Assist in preparing financial statements and management reports.
    • Support internal and external audits by gathering documentation and responding to information requests.


General Responsibilities

    • Maintain accurate accounting records and documentation.
    • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and efficiencies.
    • Collaborate with Finance, HR, and Project Management teams.
    • Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience.
  • Payroll processing experience required.
  • Experience with general ledger accounting and month-end closing.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Government contracting or project accounting experience is a plus.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting government contractors.
  • Familiarity with FAR, DCAA, or project accounting concepts.
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations and labor allocations.
  • Knowledge of project costing and contract billing.
