The Cardio Catheterization Technician performs a variety of technical and supportive patient care tasks to assist physicians in performing complex invasive cardiac catheterization procedures and surgeries.

  • Inserts small catheters through a needle into the blood vessels and into the heart so that x-rays, angiograms, and other recordings can be taken to determine the heart's structure and function.

  • Ensures the EKG equipment is in good working order. Monitors the EKG readouts and keeps the doctor apprised of anything considered abnormal. Positions patients and explains procedures.

  • Prepares the patients for the procedure by cleaning, shaving, and anesthetizing the area of insertion.

  • Assists physicians during open-heart surgery and with the insertion of pacemakers or stents. Performs quality control functions.

  • Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUN QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:

  • Associate degree or equivalent

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
