KAR & Larrabee Mechanical Contractors is seeking an experienced Commercial Mechanical Estimator to join our Miami headquarters. As one of Florida's leading mechanical contractors, we specialize in engineering, fabrication, and installation of HVAC, plumbing, piping, and mechanical systems for some of the state's most challenging commercial construction projects. 

This is an opportunity to become part of a growing preconstruction team where your expertise will directly impact major commercial projects across healthcare, hospitality, multifamily, education, industrial, and mixed-use construction. 

What You'll Do

• Prepare complete cost estimates for commercial mechanical construction projects. 
• Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents. 
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for HVAC, plumbing, piping, and sheet metal systems. 
• Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing. 
• Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor budgets. 
• Identify scope gaps, value engineering opportunities, and project risks. 
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, operations, and executive leadership during bid development. 
• Participate in bid reviews and project turnover meetings. 
• Maintain accurate historical pricing and estimating databases. 
• Help secure profitable projects while maintaining high estimating accuracy. 

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of commercial mechanical estimating experience. 
• Experience estimating commercial HVAC, plumbing, piping, or sheet metal projects. 
• Strong understanding of commercial construction methods and mechanical systems. 
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. 
• Experience with estimating software such as FastPIPE, FastDUCT, Trimble Autobid, QuoteSoft, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar. 
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills. 
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities. 
• Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously while meeting deadlines. 

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with design-build and negotiated projects. 
• Previous experience working for a commercial mechanical contractor. 
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field (preferred but not required). 
• Field experience as a Project Engineer, Project Manager, Superintendent, or Foreman is a plus.
