A Longshoreman is responsible for loading, unloading, and handling cargo on and off ships, typically working at ports and harbors. This position involves physical labor and the use of various tools and equipment to ensure cargo is efficiently and safely moved. Salary $19


Key Responsibilities:


  1. Cargo Handling:
    • Load and unload cargo from ships, trucks, and railcars.
    • Secure cargo using ropes, slings, and other fastening equipment.
    • Ensure proper stacking, storage, and weight distribution.

  2. Equipment Operation:
    • Operate cranes, forklifts, and other machinery to move heavy cargo.
    • Perform routine checks on equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
  3. Inspection and Safety Compliance:
    • Inspect cargo for damage and report discrepancies.
    • Follow all safety protocols to prevent accidents and ensure workplace safety.
    • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  4. Team Collaboration:
    • Work closely with dock supervisors, crane operators, and other crew members to ensure smooth operations.
    • Communicate effectively to coordinate cargo movements.
  5. Documentation:
    • Record cargo quantities, types, and conditions.
    • Handle documentation related to shipping and receiving.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Physical Stamina and Strength: Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting heavy objects and standing for extended periods.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensure cargo is handled and secured correctly.
  • Teamwork and Communication: Ability to collaborate with diverse teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Understanding of maritime and workplace safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in a port, shipping, or logistics environment.
  • Certification in operating heavy machinery, such as forklifts or cranes.
  • Basic understanding of cargo documentation and inventory management.
  • Speak Spanish
