About the Role

OneArc is seeking a Mission Integration Specialist to develop realistic, geographically accurate training content in Virtual Battlespace 4 (VBS4) for the U.S. Government agency customers. The center of gravity for this role is the scenario itself. You will design and build VBS4 missions that meet real training objectives, supported by geospatial data and open source research.

We are looking for creative, outside-the-box thinkers who can approach ambiguous mission problems from unconventional angles, connect disparate information, and develop practical solutions when the answer is not immediately obvious.

You will work in VBS4 daily. Prior VBS experience is highly preferred, but we will invest in training the right candidate who brings strong simulation, geospatial, and OSINT fundamentals.

We hire for demonstrated skill, not years on a resume. If you can show us strong scenario work, terrain builds, or OSINT products (through professional experience, military service, academic projects, or community and mod work), we want to see it.

What You Will Do

Scenario development (primary focus)

  • Design, build, and maintain VBS4 scenarios: entity placement, mission logic, triggers, and AI behaviors
  • Translate customer training objectives and subject matter expert input into executable operations
  • Iterate on scenarios with instructors and training audiences to sharpen training value

Terrain and geospatial data

  • Source, process, and prepare geospatial data (satellite imagery, elevation models, vector layers) for use in VBS4 terrain
  • Refine and validate terrain so it supports scenario and training requirements

OSINT support

  • May be required to conduct open source research (imagery, mapping platforms, public reporting) to ground scenarios in real-world conditions: order of battle, patterns of life, infrastructure, and environmental detail

Across all of it

  • Support customer product development, exercise events and simulation enhanced products
  • Validate content quality through structured testing and QA passes
  • Document workflows, data sources, and scenario libraries for reuse and auditability

Tools and Technologies You Will Touch

You will not need every tool on day one. Depth in a few, plus the aptitude to pick up the rest, matters more than shallow familiarity with all of them.

  • Simulation: VBS4 (scenario and mission editor, VBS Geo), with growth into Blue IG and Mantle and related OneArc tooling
  • Geospatial: ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, Google Earth Pro, Global Mapper, ERDAS Imagine or ENVI, SOCET GXP
  • OSINT: Maltego, i2 Analyst's Notebook, Sentinel Hub and Planet imagery platforms, OpenStreetMap and collaborative mapping, flight and maritime tracking platforms, archival and verification tooling

Required Qualifications

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance at time of hire, TS eligibility preferred
  • Hands-on experience building missions or scenarios in a simulation environment with a mission editor (VBS4 or VBS3 ideal; Arma series or comparable military simulation platforms also qualify)
  • Working knowledge of GIS fundamentals and at least one major toolset (ArcGIS Pro or QGIS)
  • Comfort with common geospatial data formats such as GeoTIFF, shapefile, DTED, and KML/KMZ
  • Applied OSINT skills that support scenario realism: source discovery and evaluation, geolocation techniques, and basic imagery analysis
  • Familiarity with military terminology, unit structures, or operational concepts
  • Strong written communication and documentation habits
  • Ability to travel up to 25% to customer locations

There is intentionally no years of experience line above: we evaluate candidates on demonstrated capability. Relevant military service, internships, academic work, and community scenario or modding work all count.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Highly preferred: hands-on VBS4 experience, including the scenario and mission editor (strong VBS3 experience also valued)
  • VBS4 scripting experience or exposure to the VBS SDK and APIs
  • Experience with terrain generation pipelines and tools (VBS World Server, VBS Geo, TerraTools, or similar)
  • Python scripting for geospatial workflows (GDAL, GeoPandas, or arcpy)
  • Remote sensing or photogrammetry coursework or experience
  • Prior military, intelligence community, or defense contractor background
  • Exposure to LVC (Live, Virtual, Constructive) training environments and interoperability standards such as DIS or HLA
  • Experience supporting live exercises or distributed training events

Preferred Certifications

None of these are required. They are common credentials in the geospatial, OSINT, and simulation career fields, and we weigh them as a plus alongside demonstrated work.

  • CompTIA Security+ or equivalent (the DoD 8140 baseline, relevant where privileged access to government systems is required)
  • GIAC Open Source Intelligence (GOSI) or a comparable OSINT tradecraft certification
  • USGIF Certified GEOINT Professional (CGP) credentials
  • Esri technical certifications, for example ArcGIS Pro Associate
  • GISP (Certified GIS Professional) for candidates further along in their careers
  • Completion of official Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) VBS training courses

Show Us Your Work

Applications that include work samples receive priority review. Useful examples:

  • VBS4 or VBS3 scenario files, screenshots, or capture video
  • Arma series mission or mod work (the editing skills transfer directly)
  • GIS or terrain projects: maps, processed datasets, or terrain builds
  • OSINT products such as geolocation write-ups or open source research summaries

Education

A bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Intelligence Studies, Computer Science, Modeling and Simulation, or a related field is a plus, not a gate. Equivalent skill demonstrated through military service, professional work, or a strong portfolio is fully acceptable.

Work Environment and Travel

  • Primarily remote within the United States; some work may take place at customer or government facilities as program needs require
  • Travel up to 25% to customer sites and exercise events
  • Residence in the greater Miami, Florida area is preferred to support periodic team and customer engagements

Why Join OneArc

  • Direct mission impact: the content you build supports U.S. Government and partner nation personnel for real-world operations
  • A defined growth path from scenario development into terrain engineering, VBS scripting, or analysis tracks
