UMHC-SCCC - MR Center Ā has an exciting opportunity for anĀ MRIĀ Technologist 2 position. The incumbent is responsible forĀ performing complex procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain highest quality of diagnostic images.Ā  Independent judgement,Ā ingenuityĀ and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas,Ā procedures,Ā and equipment.Ā Ā

CORE JOB FUNCTIONSĀ 

  • Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures.Ā Ā 

  • Supervises as well as performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist.Ā 

  • AssistĀ radiologists and PhD's in developing new protocols andĀ MRIĀ imaging techniques that are unique to facility.Ā Ā 

  • Participate in research initiatives and development of research protocols.Ā Ā 

  • Monitor charging ofĀ MRIĀ procedures and supplies daily to ensure correctness.Ā Ā 

  • DemonstrateĀ MRIĀ equipment for 'site visits' for visiting physicians and administrators.Ā 

  • Provide in-service classes in section.Ā 

  • Obtains and examines the order for aĀ MRIĀ scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition and any other special notes or comments.Ā 

  • Ensures that orders areĀ appropriate toĀ the type of exam recommended by physician.Ā Ā Notifies supervisor of any discrepancies and/or contacts physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.Ā 

  • IdentifiesĀ patient service requirements byĀ establishingĀ personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.Ā Ā 

  • Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband.Ā 

  • Always obtain necessary consents and education.Ā 

  • Perform complex specialized tasks associated with the operation ofĀ MRIĀ scanners and related equipmentĀ in accordance withĀ prescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist using age-appropriate standards of practice.Ā Ā 

  • Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patientĀ historyĀ and medical records and adaptĀ examĀ as necessary.Ā Ā Adheres toĀ MRIĀ protocols to maintainĀ high qualityĀ standards.Ā 

  • ConsistentlyĀ demonstratesĀ complete competence in performingĀ MRIĀ scans as ordered.Ā 

  • As required during a procedure,Ā assistsĀ positioning patients in required anatomical position for display of body forĀ MRIĀ scans using immobilization and protectiveĀ equipmentĀ as necessary.Ā 

  • MaintainĀ proper aseptic techniqueĀ utilizingĀ universal precaution guidelines (hand washing, gloves, gown, mask, eyeĀ protectionĀ and equipment disinfection).Ā 

  • AssistĀ radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast, if applicable.Ā Ā 

  • AssistĀ radiologist with interventionalĀ MRIĀ procedures.Ā Ā 

  • Ā EvaluateĀ MRIĀ scans for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately label. Film/transmitĀ to PACS.Ā Ā 

  • Charge procedures and supplies inĀ UChart/Radiant.Ā Ā 

  • Dispenses oral contrast to patients forĀ MRIĀ scans.Ā Ā 

  • Loads andĀ operatesĀ power injectors for contrast media administration.Ā Ā 

  • MaintainĀ accurateĀ patient records.Ā Ā 

  • Gains patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.Ā Ā 

  • Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:Ā ChildrenĀ AdolescentsĀ AdultsĀ GeriatricĀ Challenged/DisabledĀ 

  • Performs basic nursing functions in the patient’s care i.e.,Ā assistsĀ with bedpans, emesis basins,Ā etc.Ā Ā Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during scanning procedures; initiates life support measures for patients if necessary;Ā assistsĀ in ā€œCode Blueā€ procedure during medical emergencies.Ā Ā Performs CPR as needed.Ā 

  • Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies.Ā 

  • ProvidesĀ on-callĀ coverage.Ā 

  • Reports unusual findingsĀ in a timely mannerĀ toĀ appropriate Radiologist/SupervisoryĀ personnel.Ā 

  • Schedule patients for procedures;Ā assistĀ with clerical functions.Ā Ā 

  • Provide assistanceĀ with orientation and training of newĀ MRIĀ technologists.Ā Ā 

  • Provides education and training to student technologists.Ā 

  • Abide by hospital/department HR policies.Ā 

  • Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.Ā

CORE QUALIFICATIONSĀ 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology /Diagnostic Imaging Program.Ā 

  • MustĀ possessĀ a valid State of Florida License as a General Radiographer​ 

  • ARRT registered with ARRT certification in primary modalityĀ required.Ā 

  • CPR/BLS required

  • Three (3) years of relevant experienceĀ required.Ā Ā
